Gents,

Seeing as my '11 truck is new to me (a couple weeks old) I was lucky enough to have made a discovery whilst installing my back up camera. I have air bags! Kinda cool.

However seeing as I have never had a truck with airbags I dont really know how/when to run them. Should they be empty with no load? When do I put air in them? How much air should be used?

Can anybody offer any insight, tips, tricks or a know how?

Thanks in advance,
Geoff

Leave about 5 psi at all times. If the bags are red, max. is about 35 psi. If you'll have over 1000 lbs in the bed, or from trailer tongue weight, air up the bags to 35 psi. Less air for less load.

Yep keep 5lbs at all times. And once you get a load on it. Just air up until it's back level. Or stop when you hit 35lbs. Whichever happens first. I run around with about 8-10lbs in mine all the time. And I run about 22-25lbs in them when I'm pulling my 16ft trailer

Thanks gents, much appreciated. So if I would seldom use them, should I un-install them? From the wealth of knowledge on this forum, is there anything removed from the truck that I would need to replace during the installation of these?

One other thing, if removed would this prove useful to another person on the forum, or is it something generally bought new?

If it was me. I'd leave them in. It would be more of a hassle to remove them than it's worth. Plus you always have that extra assurance when hauling a load in the bed

This. To make it worthwhile you'd probably have to sell them for $50-60, it'd cost another 10-20 to ship them, and at that point you could just buy a new set for 100 bucks.

Leave em in, air them up to between 5-10 pounds depending on how you feel, and then that one time you need them, you can be glad you have them.

Geoff.
