Wasn't there a recall for the pinion nut coming loose and it had to be replaced with a locking style and torqued to specs.

@RamHondo did you get an explanation why your rear differential needed rebuild? My 2014 with only 54k miles needs rear diff rebuild and the dealer is quoting $4,200. I guess since it’s 11 years old it’s not covered. It’s making a whining noise and they found shavings in the oil. Appreciate anyone with insight on 4th gen rear end problems. Surprised and disappointed to have this problem with low mile Ram.

Check your local Marketplace/Craigslist/Ebay etc,for a low milege used diff, and swap it on your driveway. They aren't hard to change with a floorjack and common hand tools. I've had both my front and rear diffs in and out several times doing it myself on my driveway, and i'm only a couple months shy of my 65th birthday

How often did you check the gear oil level and to see if it was contaminated? Also do you mean not changing out the gear oil in 11 years had/has no bearing on the fact the diff went bad?
