It definitely sounds like one of your rear wheel bearings.i just did them on my 2012 bighorn. If you get the proper wheel bearing puller and installer they are fairly cheap and easy to do.did mine in about a hr and a half.i would suggest getting it done soon though.i waited a month after I bought it and I'm not sure how long the previous owner drove with them bad but had started scoring the axle.Like I said if you k ow someone with the proper tools can do it in your driveway fairly quickly.hope this helps sir

I have a 2021 making the same noise. Have you guys had any luck finding out what resolved the issue?

Speaking of rear end noise...someone has a colonoscopy coming up real soon

If you pull the back up on jackstands (all wheels if it's a 4x4) and run the wheels in gear, get a long broom handle and (safely) put one end on the axle near the bearings (other end to your ear) ...you can hear the bearings inside the axle clear as day ...left and right. You'll hear one making excessive noise if it is. Also listen to each side of the carrier bearings as those were a source of noise too on 'some' older trucks. And the pinion. Use a looong handle..be safe.

If you hear one side making more noise, you can pull the axle and observe the actual bearings for pitting, etc. At that point you might as well replace them. I would use mopar seals. If you hear something at the pinion bearing, then remove the D/S and hand rotate it...feeling for some rough action/play, etc. Pull off the u-joint end-caps and look for fluting, etc on the trunions. Check the center ds bearing if your tk has one.

If you were thinking of changing the fluid anyway, that wold be a good time to pull the axles. Then you can definitely get a better feel of the pinion ..by hand.

Now I've got to go drink a lot of that good juice!!!

Time to pull the rear cover and see if you have a lot of metal swirling around in the fluid. It could be either 1 or all 4 bearings at this point. I say this as normally the front bearing makes noise on deccel while the rear will do so on accel. The noise is constant but a bit different under both conditions. However it goes away completely with no load. That may indicate the differential bearings.
If a bearing has gone bad and contaminated the fluid for a period of time as stated, it's likely taken the others with it.
A bad Axle bearing will normally change pitch while swerving L to R as this loads and unloads the bad bearing.
If you take it to a shop MAKE SURE they clean that housing THORUGHLY or you will have repeat performance.
Keep us posted
When it comes to differential repairs, cleanliness is next to Godliness! We used to teach new techs that a thorough cleaning consisted of first, washing out the housing and axle tubes, then wiping everything with a black rag (to show up the sparkles) then a white rag to ensure that everything was clean. Then, the fun of setting everything up without using an impact wrench to collapse the sleeve!

Sometimes it's easier and cheaper to hunt up a complete diff, and just swap the complete diff especially if you have a very common gear ratio, like 3.21 or 3.55.
Probably more cost effective these days too.

Ha! Ha! the "first" prep that I had to take back in the 1980s was Castor Oil! Getting put to sleep for that procedure wasn't done back then and all these years later, I still remember that event!

One of the funny parts was when he lost track of where the end of the scope was so he had the Nurse turn out the lights and there it was, so both E.T. And I had a Heart light but mine was only for a few seconds. :D

When I had mine done, I just remember it was like being asleep for 10 minutes, but it was a great sleep. I felt awesome when I woke up.

After not eating since the day before, headed over to 5 guys for a burger!

I changed diff and TC fluid 5k miles ago and i don't remember if i had metal in the fluid
Depending what type of Differential you have a friction modifier is needed, Opened, limited slip, posi, are the types and you may get some noise out of it if that's the case.
sounds like pinion bearing to me.

Wanted to update the thread as the truck is now in the transmission shop.
No problem I don't know everything either ;)
Typically a rear end (or front if 4WD) the center section is sometimes referred to as a differential. Inside it there are 4 bearings. 1 front and 1 rear pinion bearing. On the differential itself there is a L and R bearing.
Then the L and R axle bearings. They are not normally associated with the
center section/differential itself. Some are sealed bearings others use the same grease/ fluid as the differntial. I'll attach an example of a center section that may help
NOTE: in the example, A+B are 1 bearing assy (requires 2), J+K are 1 bearing assy, and Z are the 4 bearingsView attachment 559691

I left the truck at a local trans shop yesterday after looking at this diagram, lol. I have to confess i don't feel comfortable doing any of this nor i'll have the tools to do it nor the time and dedication i'll need to learn how deal with stuff like this. I normally pay to get gears done or lockers of whatever for that reason. It'll cost me a pretty penny :( but i'll leave this instance to the pros. They said the noise comes from the diff and it's bearings related but they need to get inside and check. I need my truck fixed so f..k it, i'll be paying to get it done. This would be the 2nd repair ever i've done to this truck (knocking on wood) and i'm keeping the truck for as long as i can. She's fully paid off, i bought her in 2018 with 30 or 40k miles can't remember, and it's 2025 now and she's got 142k miles. The quote was $2500, new master something kit with new seals and bearings etc.
Only other repair has been the fuel pump level sensor and i replaced fuel pump as a whole as it wasn't very expensive, also done by a shop back in 2018.
