I recently bought a 170k miles 03-5.7. Was told it"ran when parked" Lol. It's tight, it will turn, but barely. Plans are to put it in an 05-2500 I bought, which has a 5.7 , complete with a hole in the block. I have read threads that indicate, due to EGR, that I need the later heads. Yhat much I know. In the event that the crank needs turned, will a longer stroke crank( from a 6.1/6.4) work in my block? I'm planning on new rod and main bearings,as well as timing chain and oil pump, even with the stock crank. With that mileage, of course the cam is suspect. Another thread suggested possibly a 6.1 cam would work, and that the factory one was way cheaper than aftermarket.I've got a experienced mechanic friend who can port match the heads and intake, as well as some bowl blending. Plans are for fresh, better valve springs. Due to the cost,I'm trying not to have to bore this block. Any advice or input from anyone who has done something similar would be appreciated
