Hey guys, I'm looking for some input on a 2002 Quad cab 4wd with a 5.9 magnum as far as reliability goes.

I've had an 06 hemi, 2017 Rebel, and I've been looking for a new truck after selling my Rebel to help pay for a new house .

Found the 2002, with 140k miles, on fb market place, for $4,500.

How do these 2002s with the 5.9 hold up? Any long term issues I should look for?

I honestly didn't know they had the 5.9 into 2002.

I also had a 1995 with a 360 years ago that I loved. The original auto trans was dead long before I bought it and they swapped a 5 speed manual. That ran like a champ up to 179k miles before the fuel pump died and I had to sell it before I joined the military.

Your 02 5.9 must be a 3/4 ton? If so then yes it will hold up as well as any second gen ram. Keep up on maintenance it can go 250000 or better

Nah it was a 2002. I test drove it today. Drove decent but he said it had a gradual oil loss and coolant loss. Decided to pass because I'm moving from CA to GA in October and didn't want to chance having issues driving it across the country.

Thanks for the response tho

Since the HEMI didn't debut until 03, the 02 3rd gens got the 5.9 magnum. They are as reliable as they ever were except the truck itself got all of the 3rd gen improvements. As previously stated maintenance is key. Treat it like an old generation engine in a newer generation truck and you will be fine.
