I have a 2013 RAM 1500 Outdoorsman 5.7. Last few days the truck will remote start without using the fob all by itself or it will beep. The battery and starter tested good. I changed all the fob batteries. But it still doing the same thing. I've done the soft restart by disconnecting the battery, holding the trip button in for 30 seconds and holding the bottons on the stereo.
Anyone know what is going on with it and how I can fix it myself (hopefully)??

This is how i fixed mine. Same symptoms, same fix.

I used regular old super glue to glue the contact cups back onto the rubber. That was back around 2019'ish and it still works.

Was the key fob in your pocket by chance? On my '16 it has locked or remote started several times when the fob was in my pocket and I was working around the truck, with a lot of picking and carrying stuff around. Pretty sure the buttons were getting pressed. I even tried getting a new fob in case the internal tabs and such were worn out, but still does it.

my 2014 , wife yells downstairs into shop ,your damn truck is running in the garage, about 3yrs ago.
Of course she was sleeping in bed and I was doing my usually crap in the shop at midnight .
I don't carry the Job unless I am using the truck.
about once a year I will take it apart and clean it up.

On this one ,I have never had to fix it, but last truck ,I did, but I carried it around more as I was doing way more.

If that is not the problem, I don't have any more info. Mine is the push button start, so you just keep it in your pocket, but always make sure the hidden key is still there , as a odd time the keyless entry will not work and you need the key to open the door.
happen couple days ago, always works next time.
Always at Wal-Mart seems like, I guess the truck don't like that damn joint.

About a week ago I had my 19 parked in my daughter's driveway while working on the shed in her backyard. Was doing a lot of bending over and kneeling down and heard it AutoStart. The fob was in my front pocket so somehow with all my moving around i triggered it. On my 14 I've had it lock or unlock over the years just working around it. Of course this is an issue that can happen with all vehicles that use fobs.

The keys were hanging on the wall. Plus it would do it when the battery was removed from both key fobs.

Remove the batteries from the FOB and see if it is still happening. May have a button sticking on it.
I removed the batteries in both fobs and it still happened.

Since it starts with the batteries out of both FOBs, there has to be something sending the signal to the module. Have you changed lights near the pickup, added any electronic stuff to the pickup, your shop, the house, or a close neighbor etc. If it isn't a random signal from somewhere then the module is shorting.

So, next test would be to park the truck in a remote location, far away enough to not be receiving any kind of signal from the OP’s house or a neighbor, and remove the fob batteries. If it still starts itself then, I’d guess a module problem or a shorted wire.

I had a similar issue once with a garage door opener—would open itself at night or while we were gone. Lotsa troubleshooting time and tests, and finally put two and two together when I was working in the garage with the door open and the door started closing as my neighbor drove by on his way home. Apparently, he had been driving by on his way home when I was programming my truck to the opener, and it picked up his signal as well as the one from my truck. Deleted all the programming, reprogrammed the truck to the opener, and never had the issue again. So maybe the OP is experiencing something similar only with remote start…?

I had an F-250 that did that. Only it wouldn’t actually start, the starter would engage and just crank and crank and crank.. and the blower motor would run also. Only did it after a heavy rain.

It's probably in the fob itself there are tiny little metal dish shaped cups attached to the rubber key pad and they become unattached and just lay on the contact and cause it to do that. I've had to reglue the cups in both of my fobs and more than once. They will cause doors to lock and horn to honk they are just junk

Reasonable suggestion, but per the info above it is doing it with no batteries in either FOB.

Not sure how’s that’s possible if the neighbors truck wasn’t put into “learn mode” to read the garage door transmitter. If anything, I’d be willing to bet the home builder bought a bunch of garage door opener’s and left the dip switches in their default positions. So, your opener would open/ close his door, and vice-versa.

Seen it happen when I was contracting in Huntsville at a rental house. And, I was opening closing my neighbors door without realizing it until seeing it opened knowing he wasn’t there. Hit my button for the air of it, and there it went. Crazy.

Believe the newer technology is supposed to prevent this from happening so easily. So, to prevent the easy from happening again I just change dip switches positions on my door opener, and remote. I’ve got new openers now since the old ones eventually took a crap.
