Well now after replacing the battery, the electrical issues stopped, but now the truck is telling me the battery is testing low, even though it’s brand new. What could be causing that?
New batteries sit on the shelf and self discharge. They should always be fully charged as soon as installed or just before being installed. Put it on a 10 AMP charger and charge it fully. Could take as much as ten hours. You will no longer get the low battery light.

REPLACE THE BATTERY!
Yes, I'm shouting as it's a common problem when they don't have the amp capacity like new, the electrical gremlins get upset and become active.

Dealer has stopped responding to texts or calls and I bought it “as is”, as far as they’re concerned it’s not their problem.
This is BS, drive it back and demand some answers, So its some shady grease ball on a corner lot that sell crap?
If its a real dealership then raise hell and start posting this on THEIR website.

O.K. just read more posts and I see the post about the "new" battery.
I bet its' a old reconditioned by them that was shot and they charged it up,
and they pull the old dated stickers off and sluffed it off into the next sucker that came to the lot.

Sounds like a bunch of low life scumbags. Not a real dealer ship.
I would call them out , and not to some one on the end of a phone line .
They at least owe you the price of a new battery.

The battery store should have known better then to install the wrong battery , if you had the truck their, unless you just carried the old one in.

HE ALREADY REPLACED THE BATTERY!

I am shouting too because it is a very common problem when they don't read the thread.

Not trying to be mean, but some people cannot be helped if they are that pig ignorant of everything mechanical and electrical. Sometimes "AS-IS' is just that.

Seen the battery issue with Rams and with dealers in general. Dealers by in large aren't going to replace a battery with new unless they are out of junky old half charged batteries laying around. And number two issue is workers at the dealers leave the doors open, radio on, key on, for hours on end when making repairs, detailing, auto body, and ect. I worked at a new car dealer for years and one of my jobs was running around with a jump box starting vehicles with batteries of all ages. Some workers and all management could care less if they run the battery dead. Then jump off just to get you out the door.

Tip to anyone buying a used car. Your test drive should be the time to find anything suspicious with the vehicle. Take your sales guy to eat. Park the car. Have them gas it up. I have had two vehicles I bought leaked gas when filled up. Plus overheating! Even then I change the oil right away, use fuel injector cleaner and generally keep an eye on things to make sure the vehicle doesn't reveal any surprises on the road :)

They’ve stopped responding to calls or texts about it. I know it’s 10 years old but it’s still one of the newest trucks I’ve had and can afford. I’m just looking to see anyone can help me
That's a huge red flag flappin' in the breeze. Sounds like they knew there were issues and they chose to keep that information to themselves.

Here, even a vehicle sold as is, the vendor is obligated to disclose any material deficencies. Is it that way where you are.

That would be incorrect. Being an as is sale it would be up to the buyer to do due diligence to go through the vehicle. And with that said it would be almost impossible to prove the seller conspired to sell a vehicle with a known deficiency. Also keep in mind he bought a 9 year old vehicle. I can guarantee the buyer signed a disclaimer that it was understood they were buying it as is and the seller was not responsible for any issues once it left their control. I'm also betting that the seller took the vehicle in via a trade or bought at auction. The battery that was in it at sale may have been the one they received it with.

Good news is that the OP has been able to correct the issue with a new battery and hopefully OP has many years of enjoyment.

So I just bought a 2016 Ram 1500 Laramie 5.7 Hemi from a dealership in Thursday and am financing. Ever since I took it home, the knob shifter is flashing “d”, the dash is flashing “do not shift out of drive, service transmission”, and all my electronics are acting up (heater/heated seats/radio will go in and out, parking sensors turn themselves on and off, and the remote start does not work). We know it’s not the transmission or engine, and we got the battery, alternator, and starter tested at Advanced. We have also checked all the fuses. Turning it off and turning n works for a little bit, but then it starts acting up again. How do I fix this issue?
Take it back to the dealer ASAP!

Maybe you missed the part saying the posters vehicle is now working properly after replacing the battery. It seems you may not have read the entire thread. It was never confirmed that the seller was actually a RAM dealer.

I would get a battery minder/maintainer on that battery ASAP, or disconnect the negative battery connection whenever it is shut down. At least until you sort out a few things.

The most likely cause of the low battery alarm is either (1) a defective new battery, not that unusual, or (2) an alternator that is failing to recharge the battery, or (3) a bad connection from the alternator to the battery, or (4) a mystery current draw.

And in a 2016 truck, we can never rule out a TIPM fault. Let's save that one till the other suspects are cleared.

(1) The SOP for this condition is to load test the battery with a toaster-style load tester like this $18 device from Harbour Freight. The digital testers used at parts stores and elsewhere are prone to false positives.

(2) The alternator can be tested at a parts store for free.

(3) YouTube has video tutorials on voltage drop tests. One of them will include the large B+ wire from the alternator to the battery. A digital multimeter will be required for this test. A quick check that all connections are clean, corrosion-free, and snug may be attempted first and could identify a problem.

(4) The mystery currents are usually caused by a module that fails to sleep when you shut down the engine. They're not too difficult to get sorted out, but can be a bit tedious. I would suggest you start at the beginning with the easiest to the more tedious tasks.

Load testing a battery with the identified tester is inexpensive, painfully easy, and is a great piece of test gear to own. I've had 2 of them for decades.

Any questions?

.
I know this isn't a 5th gen, but the service manual for 5th gens instructs to disconnect the IBS connector before disconnecting the battery. I've been told this can cause an issue if not done. Could this be an influence?

Dusty

Now you can see the difference between buying from a buy-here pay-here lot “as is” and buying from a dealer and getting a “certified” vehicle with nationwide warranty. You really need to check both when purchasing to see if the good deal is really a good deal. Of course there are non-dealers that offer varying warranties in between. Sometimes you can negotiate the warranty as part of the purchase price.

Not certain I follow your meaning…. imo, here in Texas “As Is” …means if it has problems and you buy it….you also own the problems.

“As Is, No Warranty” is usually ON the sticker IN the window. I recently purchased a 180K miles used-Ram from the Bastrop, Tx Ford dealer (same folks also own the Ram dealership)….and when I wrote the check and signed the paperwork…it was a Specific and Separate Document I had to sign acknowledging that there was No Warranty, and sold “As Is”.

Dealers are pretty clear about that in Texas.

<edit> There is a Texas “Deceptive Trade Practices Act” which provides some protections if major defects are deliberately withheld, and there is a Federal requirement that any warranty must be in writing (such as if any OEM warranty still applies. If so, (OEM Warranty still applicable) the Tx Lemon Law may apply. But “extended warranties” are usually “service contracts” and will not apply under Lemon Law. https://www.txdmv.gov/motorists/con...ed vehicle may be,the defect; (Sample letter)

Why would “as is” be worth anything?
It’s just that, “as is”.
That means whatever is wrong with it, you own it and have to fix it.
It’s the same meaning everywhere. SMH

In New York State when a car is sold “as is” it means the seller is transferring ownership of the vehicle in its current condition — with all known and unknown defects — and is disclaiming any warranties (both express and implied) for the vehicle after the sale UpCounsel+1. This includes the implied warranty of merchantability (that the car is fit for ordinary use) and the implied warranty of fitness for a particular purpose legalclarity.org.

Key points for buyers in NY:

  • No post-sale warranty: If the car breaks down or has a defect after purchase, the seller is not legally obligated to repair or replace it UpCounsel+1.
  • Buyer assumes all risks: Any repairs, replacements, or costs for defects are the buyer’s responsibility UpCounsel+1.
  • Dealer vs. private sale: Dealers can only sell “as is” under certain conditions — for example, if the vehicle is over a certain age, meets safety standards, or is unsafe to operate UpCounsel+1. Private sellers generally sell “as is” by default unless the contract states otherwise UpCounsel.
  • Limited legal recourse: In NY, you generally cannot sue for issues like odometer tampering, failure to disclose a full accident history, or a stolen car that was retitled UpCounsel+1. However, fraudulent misrepresentation (e.g., hiding major defects) can still be grounds for legal action UpCounsel.
  • Fraud and lemon law exceptions: Even if sold “as is,” if the car has a substantial defect that affects its value or safety, you may still have rights under New York’s lemon law or other consumer protection statutes Robison Lemon Law Group, LLC.
