An update to this:

I planned on working on the wheels this past spring. But I had surgery which put me out of the count for a few months. Then life just got in the way.

I did a test spot a few minutes ago just to see if the McKee’s worked.

After

Seems to work. I cleaned the spot, clay bar, then worked the McKee’s in.

Hopefully next weekend I’ll have the time to clean all the wheels.

I’ll let yall know.

Is that space large enough to get a 3" buffer into? Just think that would save a lot of time and effort if you're doing it all by hand.

I don't think it is. Plus I don't own a 3" buffing machine.

And a lot of the staining is the curve of the rim where I assume it would be difficult to use a buffer.

You can buy little polishing widgets that fit in the chuck of your drill. I have some. Quite good but you need to go slow. Cos of drill speed you can burn paint. Ask me how I know……..

Ah, like the Mother's Polish ones they advertise. I didn't think of that.

Some quick googling shows that the Mother's Powercone may not be suitable for painted wheels,

I wonder if this would fit between the spokes. If not, any other suggestions?

I think mine came from harbour freight. Had a long time.
Search for polishing pads for drills. Amazon/walmart. You don’t have to get this full kit tho they are cheap and handy

Only other suggestion---buy a case of beer and invite your best friend over for a few beers and a "little" wheel polishing.

I polished all the rims with the McKee’s prep polish today.

Clean with non acidic wheel cleaner
Decontaminated with liquid clay bar
Further decontamination with clay mitt
Then polish with the McKee’s

It really didn’t take as long as I thought. 3 hours or so.

Here’s some before and after pictures

I also got into the lug wells and where the valve stem comes out, but I forgot to get pictures of it.

The polish didn’t get 100% of the staining, but the wheels definitely look much better than before.

Another update:

The polish didn’t remove as much as I originally thought.

I washed the truck this morning, and after drying the wheels they looked like this.

Probably user error. I’ll have to get one of those power balls and try again. Probably not until after new years depending on weather.
