Replace bed with flatbed?

My 2020 with the short bed got a modest whack in the rear corner by someone in a parking lot. The taillight assembly is ok, but the bumper is a bit trashed as well. Insurance paid me a couple of grand. I am considering taking the box off and installing a flat bed. We were working in Australia until recently and aluminum flat beds on Toyotas are a dime a dozen. There is a shop of in Canada that fabricates aluminum flat beds, but they are spendy. And its about 1,000 mile drive to get up there to have it installed. The reason to replace the box is so that I can carry a camper on back - we do a lot of desert camping and its really nice to get out of the wind to cook and such.

Anyone have experience with this kind of replacement?

Do you already own the camper? Flatbed and in-bed campers are quite different.
