Bought a few different air filters so I could compare them, here’s the results.

(disclaimer: based on 2017 Ram applications)

6.4 and 3.0 diesel (will fit 5.7, 3.6 air box)

Mopar 53032404AB (1-1/2” thick)
107 Pleats
3.6, 5.7

Wix 42725 (1-3/4” thick)
119 Pleats
3.6, 5.7, 6.4 and 3.0 diesel

Purolator One A35462 (1-7/8” thick)
84 pleats
3.6, 5.7, 6.4 and 3.0 diesel

Do you think there would be a significant difference in the amount of airflow? I would assume that the thinner filters would/should be changed more often.

This was from another thread talking about using the thicker Mopar filter.

That’s absolutely what it means.

Short pleats means a give required amount of air (demanded by the engine) has to move through less available air passages in the media to get to the combustion chamber.

Taller pleats = more area and air passages in the media for the same amount of air to move through=less resistance and better flow.

The one thing that surprised me was the less pleats used by Purolator versus the others.

It would be nice to cut them open and fold out the pleats to get a length measurement but I plan on returning the Wix and Purolator lol

Looks like I forgot to mention that, I went with the thicker Mopar filter 68190705AA
