My gear selector buttons on the shifter lever no longer work. No amount of smacking, tapping, holding, pushing, will get the shifting to engage, or the hill descent speed to change.

Has any body fixed this issue or the buttons? What does it take? Where can I get the parts and what parts are there? Google is not being helpful.

The buttons usually aren't usually what fails. Usually its one of the connector pins in the clock spring, or the clock spring itself.

Scan it for codes.

Even though the check engine light isn't illuminated, there will probably be a code in the BCM or one of the other modules that will give a clue as to what is having trouble.

You'll need a scan tool that can check all of the modules, so a 20$ code reader isn't going to do it. Run by AutoZone or O'Reilly's, they will be able to scan it with something capable of reading all of the modules.

Finally got time to read codes.

Looks like a B23B6. The shift lever like I thought. How is this related to the clock spring when the shift lever isn't on the steering wheel?

I also have p0579 related to the cruise buttons, but those work often enough I'm not concerned.

Your interpretation of B23B6 could use some development.

As Ken mentioned, this could likely be the connections to the clockspring, or the clockspring itself or a TIPM connection.
Further analysis is required to make that determination.

Are the ERS buttons on your truck part of the steering wheel controls?
I don't have a 2015 2500 service manual.

Check this thread about an intermittent cruise control. After firing the parts cannon and spending $1K, a bad connection to the clockspring was identified and repaired as the solution.

The cruise control is related to the ERS buttons fault.

The service manual is available below.

The HD trucks ERS buttons are on the shift lever, they didn't get the buttons on the steering wheel until 2019 and that was just for the gassers.

I suspected as much. Are they configured the same, without the clockspring involvement?

I read about another year where the ERS buttons are wired with the cruise control through a CCM module, IIRC.

Does that sound likely?

I must have had an epiphany and finally used the right Google-fu. Because I saw two posts about replacing the shift lever assembly(whole assembly not just buttons) save it fixed the issue.

Replacement of the shift lever is the solution it has nothing to do with the clock spring because the buttons are on the shift lever, not the steering wheel, which is why my post was titled shift lever/buttons.

I'm not sure where anybody ever got anything in their minds about anything related to the steering wheel or clock spring, or cruise control. This is a shift lever assembly issue.

autostick/ers is the shift lever buttons on the shift lever not at all ever attached to the steering wheel.

Your reading comprehension could use some development.

It's probably because anyone reading or posting from a phone can't see any of this:

So, unless you specify that it's a 2500 in the body of your post, we make the assumption that you are asking about a 1500 5.7, because that's what 99% of the questions here are about.

The forum software doesn't show the same things on a phone as it does on a PC.

You can see that info on a phone if you turn it sideways, I do it all the time. Usually the problem is people have old or wrong information about their vehicle in the profile information.

I saw the avatar but my collection of HD service manuals is older, and I wasn't sure when the HDs moved the ERS to the buttons on the steering wheel.

Now I know that only applies to 2019+ gassers. Thanks Crash.

I use Vivaldi mobile on my phone. It appears almost the same as my PC.

I believe there's Vivaldi for the Apple crowd too, if you're interested in a powerful and customisable bowser.
