Hey looking to upgrade the muffler on my 08' Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7L...... Not really to worried about much performance gains only a plus, but want to get that loud deep rumble.... Only problem is I'm on a budget so figured I could just swap out muffler and leave pipes CAT headers etc for a later date.... Any opinions on a good muffler to get a good sound without breaking the bank?

Super 44, 3" in dual 2.5" out

I also have had lawson industries incynerator muffler, kind of a flowmaster knockoff for half the price.

I've had two different sized Magnaflow mufflers and I think if I had to do it again I would go with a Flow Master.

Just remember you may need a pipe extension to compensate for the different lengh of mufflers depending on which one you get

I've had a Magnaflow on a little four banger I had in highschool and remember someone had said Flowmaster was a better sound on larger trucks is that true or not if a preference? But I have been leaning that way and also heard clips of the Super 44 model and liked it but they had more than just a muffler so hard to tell

All I read on the internet is that some people love the Magnaflow, some love the Flowmaster and some love (insert muffler name). It's a tough decision! Mine is still stock for now. I really do not want to tune out MDS until my warranty is finished and I hate the helicopter chop. I have had exhaust on every vehicle I have ever owned, but this one scares me. Interesting to see what your choice is and how you like it.

I say you are gonna have to pick what sounds best to you.

Just remember the shorter the muffler can, the louder the muffler is.

Good luck!

It's exactly as Maddog said, it's all personal preference . Just YouTube search the different mufflers on 3rd Gen rams. And remember a ccsb will sound different than a rcsb cause of overall pipe length of the system.

Yeah gonna be a tough choice..... Anyone notice any deeper/louder sound from one vs. the other or is it pretty marginal and more preference of buying a "brand name"?

I had magnaflow. And now I have flowmaster super 44. Magnaflow sounds deep, but muffled... Almost even feels like you lose power. It doesn't rumble like I want. Flowmaster sounds sooooo much better and feels like it did stock to me. I actually like the "helicopter chop" and Sadly the super 44 doesn't do that, you're good. The lawson industries muffler did though but I think it was only like 8" long.

I have the FM50HD and it does drone. Mind you i have a QCLB so that muffler is back quite a bit too. Its a deep rumble but its not quite aggressive enough for me when i put my foot down. I dont care for crazy loud or chambered (restricts exhaust flow) so flowmasters are kinda out for me.
If i were you, id check out Carven. I think they sound awesome on the 4th gens. Unfortunately, i cant find any on 3rd gens, but those will probably be my next muffler when i get rid of the FM50

Side note. You can check out a video on the feed i started with my truck build. Its a bit of a burnout when i was getting new tires so it holds the note under load near the camera so it gives you a good idea of how loud the FM50 gets (thats really it)

Spintech or carven.. Everybody has flowmaster and magnaflow and they all sound the same.. The spintech has a good deep rumble and reviews say no drone.. Carven just sounds beastly.

There is more to the choice than brand name. Sound is all about preference, but you should understand the difference between a flow-through and a chambered muffler before you decide. Since the o/p is low on dough a weld-in is probably best option, although you have to be careful the muffler shop doesn't use aluminized extender pipe since the rest of the o/e system is stainless. Magnaflow is straight flow and Flowmaster is chambered. Mufflex makes a DIY direct bolt in based on a Magnaflow with all stainless piping, but it'll run you about $300.

Thanks for the info guys, also seen a lot of exhaust with the pipe ending up over the rear axle, mostly with Borla.... Is that just a Borla thing or could I do that to and get more noise with less pipe/restriction? Any draw backs out problems with that?

May cause exhaust smell in the cabin that way... But I highly doubt it will give any gains in performance.

I had one single 10-series on my truck at first. It had a good sound, loud and deep, with the cats still on the truck. First it was dumped in front of the axle, but was pretty loud inside the cab, so I dumped it over the axle and fixed it. Now I have true duals dumped over the axle and wouldn't do it any other way. I've just always liked how Flowmaster sounds, especially the 1 and 2 chambered ones.

I had a Spintech on a Z28, and it had a really good sound. Even though it was a 4" through cats. If I went to any muffler besides Flowmaster I'd go back to Spintech.
