Hey, all, I recently saw a manual ram in my local junkyard. Kinda got me curious on what it would take and what I'd need to pull off of it to make my truck a stickshift.

Also wondering how those trannies hold up in a performance application (meaning, would it be more worth the time to try finding and putting in a tremec) and if there's any aftermarket for them. As well as gear ratios; what are they?

If you search this has been brought up. Everything your asking. Seriously. Search. Like it’s there on google. An before you reply that you’ve looked an blah blah, I’ve seen countless threads over the years about this. Every single question has been addressed in the over decade an a half these trucks been out. So like school do some god dam research.

I hear ya man, I love manual trans but they are getting harder to find in decent shape nowadays.

Yeah, meant to include that bit with my original reply to you. I did some research on it, and it's either a getrag 268 or an NV3500. Read about people reading about reliability issues with the getrag, and it has ****** gear spread, particularly overdrive not being as deep as it ought to.

The NV3500 is better, but not enough gears, and the overdrive STILL isn't as deep as I'd like. Anything else would take more work to put in, so I guess I'm kinda screwed and stuck with 'fake shifting' my trans 1-3 whenever I get the urge.

I kinda should be thinking about a different car, anyway, as I've expressed before. This beast is hell on gas, BIG(a lot to clean, park, and maneuver), and it's not as fast as I'd like and definitely will never handle like a car.

What I probably SHOULD get is something along the lines of a Chevy Spark. What I want, though, is RWD, Stick shift, 300HP or better, and seats 4 adults comfortably while getting ~17 city and 25 highway. If I just owned an ecodiesel, I wouldn't have the fuel efficiency problem, at least.

And now I'm back to ******** about **** again. Lol.

I too want a car like this, here is what I often look for:
06-07 Mazdaspeed 6
Subaru Legacy GT

Both are turbocharged, 6 speed manual, 4 door sedans, AWD instead of RWD, not quite 300hp (275ish) and similar MPG.

Gonna make the calls this week! Last I checked, though, job corps had boarding. And they're really far away from me, so I'd kinda have to go there.

I'm a hoon at heart, so I want the rwd and 3 pedals to practice sideways-ing. Plus less **** to break and have to fix, less weight, fewer drivetrain losses, and better mpg.

Cars that fit from a few minutesof research are a BMW E46 M3 and Infinity G35.

Gotta go with ST-8 on this one, this ranks up there with "I wanna put a hemi in my 3.7/4.7/5.9", "I wanna put an eagle hemi in my pre-eagle hemi/4.7/3.7 Ram", "I wanna put a monster stroker and blower in my 03..." etc, etc. Questions, some of them outright dumb asked over and over and over and over ad nauseum. Everyone wants everything handed to them instead of taking a little personal initiative and trying to figure it out for themselves.

About the most scatter brained person I ever ran into. I think he makes a list of cool truck jargon, saves it up and spews it out trying to sound smart. Dude, you just sound annoying and clueless. Now go put your RC car back together.

Lool. Chads gotta stand up for each other when they feel threatened. Funny.

"It's okay, bro. We're cool bro, and he's lame, bro."

"Yeah, bro..."

*single manly tear slides down faces as ramforum chads group hug in secret*

*they all chorus in unison*

"No ****...."

So much for asking questions around these parts; getting fresh information and all...

All the times you come up with cute answers if you spent searching you wouldn’t have people like me being an *******, because your not asking anything that hasn’t been covered in with these trucks that are coming up on 15+ years old. I know I’m probably overboard to you about it. But you deserve it kid, this forum honestly has to be one of the WORST places to find anything performance. The other spectrums of the forum are pretty good but not a lot of tech here like other forums.

Okay. I'll look elsewhere for performance answers.
