I have recently purchased one for my 6-speaker setup. The instructions that came with it were very vague.

I know of one guy here who has it installed in his OEM Alpine setup.

This is a great option for adding a DSP w/ EQ and keeping the OEM unit (I have the 8.4). I watch alot of these guys install videos and was hoping they would get around to doing something on the DSR1.

I'm an old man and just retired, so I got an 18 Bighorn with the 8.4 nav radio, but the 6 speaker non amplified. I wanted Ramboxes and no trucks also had the premium stereo so I decided to upgrade the stock one. No aftermarket head unit does as much as the stock 8.4 nav, and I could not find a JBL-MS8 so I am going Rockford Fosgate starting with the DSR1.

I ordered a DSR1 and the HRN-AR-CH2 cable, but cannot figure out the wiring. Is there a factory amp harness I need to purchase?

I ordered a Foxbox ported, two RF P2D4-12's to wire 2 ohm, an RF T400-2, RF T400-4, RF T1693, RF T2652-S, some 80mm Killmat and a J roller. All these I can figure out, and since I am retired, I am in no hurry.

I assume I need to 500ohm load the speaker outputs to use as high level inputs to the DSR1, but did I waste my money on the HRN-AR-CH2 cable and need a different harness from someone else?

Thanks, Robert

if you dont have the factory amp no need for the harness. what you're going to need is the color code for the stock speaker wires

I love my DSR1 it was an easy setup once you do get through the color codes of the stock speaker wires. your just going to run new wire from amp and the rcas from the amp up to the head unit and dsr1 and the dsr1 will tuck in behind the stock head unit. takes a little fanagaling (is that a word) but it fits. makes sure you electrical tape all the rca connections so none come apart when reinstalling. after that all the settsing are run by your phone, DO NOT put everything back together until you know for sure your bluetooth is locked into the unit and you can adjust your settings. any problems fosgate techs are great and will walk you through steps you dont understand.

these guys do have one for the dsr1 BUT is was specific amp from kenwood i believe and all the connections were simple because of the amp that marries directly to the dsr1. no wire cutting what so ever, all direct connects from head unit to dsr1 to amp

This is not correct, there are aftermarket head units that do MUCH more than the stock 8.4. You just need to know what you’re doing and choose correctly.

With the stock (non-Alpine) system you can use many different DSPs.

and you do not need to ohm load the speakers, the dsr1 does that automatically

I should probably clarify about the features, what I mean is doing things like trailer brake setups, air conditioning controls, android auto, bluetooth phone that actually works great with the overhead microphones, easy to use navigation, fast USB stick reads, and all those sort of vehicke specific integrated features.

As far as high end aftermarket radio features goes I built an I7 Win10 carPC running Driveline, with a USB DAC for audio out to integrate using an aftermarket HDMI input device like this one:

Question 88ROOK...
Did you use a remote out signal from the stock radio harness to turn on the DSR1, or just let the high level inputs turn on the DSR1 when the radio speakers output?

OK, so I finished my install today, and thanks to everyones online and offline inputs, everything works great. Thanks all. I ended up using a Netaudio Tee harness that I teed in to a 2 foot length of 9 wire to relocate the DSR1 under the center console. I mounted my amps under the front seats.

The sound was really awful at first, all muffeled bass, but the radio had just updated its firmware on me, and it may be that the flash that uconnect just pushed, messed up the EQ and Fader settings I had. When I started to set the bass flat, the mid and treble jumped all the way down by themselves. Also my screen theme changed by itself.

So with the uconnect EQ flat and balance centered, and the RF amp gains all the way down, I setup the crossover points to those shown on the speakers instructions. For the time alignment wizard, I measured to the center of the drivers seats at ear level. Everything on the DRS1 EQ is set to a flat response too.

Sounds great, even though I used summed high level inputs. I can listen at full volume without any clipping or noticable distortion so I'm very happy with the DSR1. I might not have to do anymore tuning, but it's fun playing with the tuning app.
