Perhaps switch to Mobile 1? Mobil had a higher detergent concentration than RP which = longer engine protection and quality. Not to mention they say you can go 15k between oil changes, but I do 7-8k. It’s also about 30% cheaper. You can order online with many of the auto suppliers apps and get an additional 5% off.

The specific item in question is the royal purple 20-820 oil filter everyone. Not oil and or other products lol.
Plus there is a reason he wants the 20-820 as well ... I probably should of ordered more 20-820s, I personally wont use another filter, almost went with the 20-500

I was wondering the same thing. Im using the 20-820 now and can’t find them myself. If I can’t find them I will switch to the 20-500
@buckeyexx (or anyone)

What’s the difference between the two-besides their size? Which one is preferable and why?

Thanks!

Hemimann has led the way on the 20-500, says it is just as good, he actually says better.

This isnt your grandpas fram, see post 13. I use them, that are 100% spun glass and led each test we posted. I do prefer rp for my hemi, but many many guys here prefer fram too.

Actually, I said the 20-500 is a better fit because the base is direct-fit, where the 20-820 is oversize and some guys had some leakage with gasket overlap.

20-820 does not fit in my HD Ram 2500 6.4 Hemi, 20-500 does.

If 20-820 fit, I would use it because it has a bit more media filtration surface area. 20-500 has more media filtration surface area than the OEM size, though, so I use it.

Back in the thread I posted the comparative media surface areas for all of these RP & Fram substitute filters so you can see how much more filter you get.

Honestly i just know that @HEMIMANN has used it in place of the 20-820. For what ever reason the 820 will fit some hemi 6.4’s like mine but will not fit some others. I’m not opposed to using the Amsoil filter because I basically have every other fluid made by them in my truck now. I trust @Burla and his research he has done on oil and filters. So if the Fram XG2 is as good as they say I may check it out.

Royal Purple customer service has gone downhill since the sale of the company to Calumet out of Illinois.

I used to go directly to the facility in Porter Texas and purchase oil since 1996.

But since Calumet took over, that is not allowed.

They say go to O’Reilly’s Auto Parts.

They rarely have any in stock.

I don't see other filters beside the 80-820 out of stock at O'Reilly's in my area so that tells me it's just the high demand of the 80-820 .... are you basing their customer service quality on that alone ?

Same in my area around Cincinnati. In the past if my closest oriellys was out of stock they would just transfer one the same day from another. Now no such luck but can get probably any other one just not the 20-820.

Just weird why specifically just the 20-820 if was a production issue wouldn’t others be effected like the 500, etc as well? Maybe coming out with upgraded version soon behind doors?

Seriously, the word is out Hemi owners have bought them all up. Supply and demand. Sadly the industry doesnt take note, they are leaving money on the table not cloning this.

We talked about this maybe 2 years ago, this has been going on. This filter stores well, when the supply opens up if you like this filter I'd consider stocking up. Store in a closet indefinitely.
