Stop/start systems just seem unsafe to me.

In Europe it's the law that the vehicle have to have this feature. Not sure if you can switch it off. obviously it works there. but I doubt it is very helpful in stop and go traffic. glad not to have it.

Why do you think they're unsafe? Not trying to argue, just curious.

My wife has it on her 2016 Cherokee. I don't like it, and the worst part is you have to turn it off EVERY time your restart the vehicle. Other than just not liking it, the safety issue really is that the power isn't there when you expect it to be there. It most comes into play when I am trying to make a left turn from a dead stop. I'll see that I have just enough time in heavy traffic to make my left turn, but when you hit the gas there is a 1-1.5 second delay that you just stand there while the engine restarts, which is long enough to cause the guy that you were turning in front of to have to slow down. I know some people are going to say give yourself more time, yadayada, and when I think about it I do, but a lot of times I forget its there.

Hey, on a side note, totally random, I remember seeing somewhere an Abrams tank needs around 10 gallon of fuel just to start its turbine engine! Imagine giving that f*cker start/ stop technology!! Hahaha holy crap, you'd run out of fuel on the battlefield. Now, that's "unsafe."

Ever seen the cloud of unburned fuel that rolls out of a turbine when it starts?

Pretty much exactly what zflat was talking about, a delay in power. For example, say you are sitting at a stop, and you happen to see an out-of-control car coming at you. You hit the gas to get out of their way and your vehicle does nothing for a second or so. That delay in power could be what gets you injured or killed.

As a former tanker, I can confirm it takes about 15 gal. And I believe the total amout of fuel was 502.4 gal... With 2 gas tanks :) (technically 3 but I don't feel like explaining)

Now try and guess how many wheels they have.

IMO

I have the start/stop "feature" in my 2015 base Mini Cooper. Fortunately it stays off unless I put the vehicle in "green" mode, which I don't do (for reasons already stated here). I use "Mid" or "Sport" modes. Seems silly to "go green" when I get 37-38 mpg in the upper two driving modes.

That is a good point... However, all of the start-stop vehicles I have driven start the moment you lift your foot (or even reduce pressure) on the brake pedal. By the time your foot is on the skinny pedal it's ready to go... The reaction time is very fast, I'd guess less than a second.
That being said, I don't like them either. I also wonder about the wear-n-tear on the engine and other parts from starting and stopping all the time. :favorites13:

So when i start my truck it goes straight to 1 in the rpms. After awhile it drops when im not driving but not to 0 only halfway.even when i drive and i stop at red light, it doesnt go to 0.only half way. Is this a reason for concern or is it normal?its a 2015.also still cant get over how bad my mpgs are, if that's normal, then ill just accept it and move on.

You need to check your turn signal fluid, low turn signal fluid is usually the cause of this...
If that doesn't fix the issue, replace your muffler bearings that will do it for sure.

Just watched a video on the 1st of this month showing how to "properly" change/add blinker fluid... I'm doing it wrong.
