rusts spots!

Well the day has arrived that I have to start sanding on my truck .. Tomorrow (today since its 1 am) I get the DA out and take out the rust spots on the bed over my wheel wells.. Its always painful to do but on a white truck they stick out like a sore thumb and its driving me crazy!! Just gonna hit it with grey primer and white rattle can and some clear for now just to hold me over and hopefully slow down the spots.. I HATE CHEAP ASS CHINESE METAL!! Wish me luck I will post pics later..

I did it with my girlfriends truck but I bedliner over it
I recomend using an etching primer (and an epoxy primer to seal it wouldnt hurt) and see if duicolor sells your color in their perfect match rattle can then hit it with clear

There are ways you can tape it off so it doesn't leave a sharp tape line

I just did the same a couple weeks ago. But I sanded it down poked and picked and dug as much actual rust out of it as I could (mine was starting ro come through enough that after sanding there were some holes) Then I used POR 15 on the spots and the sprayed it with undercoating and then rustoleum black. And then covered it all with fender flares.

While doing this I looked at the design of the bedside. It appears to me that part of the problem is that there are drain holes on the back side, but they are about three inches up the back which means that anything below that stays. It traps the water.

I didnt get a chance to get to it this weekend so im gonna do it this week.. I do have the self etching primer and had planned on going over it with the bedliner material when I do the bottom of the doors and the bed with it, then add the fender flairs on top of it.. that is one of the long term plans that I have.. I will take before, during and after pics.. Thanks guys

Well I ordered the Herculiner Kit with an extra quart as soon as it gets here I will be one busy guy.. Im gonna do the bed, bottom of the doors and fenders with it.. I am also considering doing the bumpers, havent made up my mind on them yet.. I have to debadge and de-bump rail it first..
