hey guys and gals, had this issue come up recently.
I bought my truck used, a 2017 Ram 1500 SLT, papers in the glovebox show it was a rental. No issue. Almost a year later, I was backing up, when a service shifter light appeared on the dash. After I parked, I went into messages and it cleared. About 4 days later, it came on again, but started to ping every 20 seconds. Was very annoying. I didn’t want to risk anything so I took into the dealer. After googling this problem, it could be almost anything electrical. I was hoping my recent cluster upgrade and uconnect 8.4 upgrade didn’t mess anything up. Dealer called me up and said that they couldn’t figure it out. They needed to keep it overnight and work on it again the next day. The next day they figured out to simply replace the shifter. I have the dial shifter. They weren’t sure but wanted to try. Sure enough, it worked, cleared the codes. It was all covered under warranty. No cost to me, even got the truck latch recall done. Now when I drive it, I can hear the dial lock when I park or click when I shift the gear. I remember it being smooth before. I’m not sure if it was me or not, but after reading some more, if you don’t press the brake before you shift, you could cause this code to show. Now I am very careful. Hope this helps anybody else experiencing this issue!
