Just wanted to share the repair ICBC did to my 2017 Ram 1500 Laramie. ICBC wanted me to drive the truck 3 hours back to the shop they had do this hack job so they could reinspect their own work. They are now letting me get it inspected at a local shop of there choosing and then I get the privileged of driving it back 3 hours to the hack job shop for them to try to fix it again. Also no rental and I have to get my own hotel and meals.

The truck doesn't drive straight and is pretty unpredictable when it hits bumps. I'm not too worried about myself, ill be fine unless its a semi coming the other way. I'm worried for the new family driving a early 2000s Toyota with there kids in the back who happens to be coming down the other way when this hack job fails. ICBC seem hell bent on just getting an alignment on the truck and calling it as good as new.

Just curious, what happened to cause that damage? Are those just mounting brackets for he bed?

No sir, those are the front passenger side control arm mounts. When I say control arm mounts they are actually parts of the frame rail itself. The top picture was the original lower control arm mounting point. The entire front frame rail should have been sectioned and a new one butt welded in at the very least. But really the entire frame should have been replaced. If you look at the pictures you can see marking from where the shop heated and beat the frame mount point and MIG welded it back together. All other control arm mounting points are also bent which they didn't fix.
The pictures of the bed not aligning with the cab are simply to show that the cab was pushed two inches left from the accident. Really we should be using the wheel to cab for reference but this is hard to show on camera. So I show it by showing the alignment between the cab and bed (which isn't a big deal if it's off by a quarter inch).
The pictures of the dented rusted area is the inside of the rocker panel which wasn't fixed at all. Just hidden from sight be repairing the outside only.

I told the ICBC insurance adjuster that its willful negligence to have repairs go out like this and that no reasonable person would look at this and say its fixed correctly let alone a trained mechanic. Then he went on rant about how that is a strong accusation.

Everyone in BC should know this is what you're sharing the road with everyday. If anyone works at ICBC and can help me out let me know. If anyone wants the adjuster number to discuss how he is putting your families lives at risk to save a dollar let me know and I'll send you his contact.

Get a legal opinion then an estimate from a good shop and a safety inspection
ICBC is the only insurance for basic coverage we in BC can use
I carry private above basic ICBC so I have some one to go to bat for me
What shop and what city

So you're saying that your repairs were paid for and controlled by an insurance company that is actually owned by the Canadian government? Do they own or control the repair shop that did this substandard/dangerous repair too?

It's owned by the BC government, not the Canadian goverment. Each province is a bit differant though,as over here in Alberta we have private insurance companies.ICBC has had a terrible gouge and screw rep since i drove tow truck over there 42 years ago.

I hope the OP makes out okay, never a good thing to go up against the government. Just curious who would be the oversight on this type of arrangement?

You have a choice of shops to repair and they pay for it but like any one they should hold funds until all is good and back you up

There is a ton of different avenues to put pressure on them that are mostly useless.

There is a fairness commissioner, I believe he heard 200+ cases last year and ruled ICBC was treating customers unfairly in 2 cases of the 200+.

Next up is the B.C. Ombudsperson.

Both of these organization only look at if ICBC is following there own rules. And even if they decide in your favor they only make a recommendation to ICBC on what they should do.

Finally you have your regular legal channels.

You don't really, I told them to take it to Golden BC. They insisted it had to be done in Revelstoke and ended up picking a shop there.
