Electrical question so I can understand how amps work (I know nothing about electrical.) Let's say I have a standard 110 plug device that pulls 7.5 amps. I could plug that into both a 15 or 20 amp 110 outlet and it will still only pull 7.5 amps and be safe, correct?

I just cleared an area for a shop and still trying to figure things out. I'll need a four post lift. My truck doesn't fit well on a two post with it's coil over suspension. I'm thinking 16' ceiling over the bays and a second storage floor over the rest of it using the lift as a elevator to the 2nd floor for mc and engines.

yes that is it. Technically you can run two of them simultaneously. your at max on a 15 amp breaker but thats it.

on Shop stuff:

You have CAT5E or better covered, heating is region specific, and everybody has covered electrical and putting air compressor in its own shed with lines in to take care of noise.

In my shop i need to add a ceiling fan. I run a stand up oscillating fan to keep air circulating and keep stuff dry when a little bit of snow/ rain or whatnot gets in and its dry in a couple hours. Fan on ceiling would free up floor space and an outlet. Just having the air moving makes a huge difference in drying stuff out.

I typically do wood work and such in mine which creates a different set of issues for dust and the like. Makes it really hard to keep clean. If you can keep the table saw / planer separate its a win.

it's inevitable that you'll go over budget unless you had EVERYTHING perfectly planned out.

Sort of related----Sears had a big article in our paper about going out of business and they were selling everything at up to 70% off. If you need any tools or automotive stuff they might sell, it might be a good time to take a look.

I heard that also, something about bankruptcy? I have one at the local mall so I will have to stop in and check it out. Shoot half my current garage and tools came from Sears lol always loved those craftsman saver days!

Sears went bankrupt in canada a while back. Sucked as I liked sears and bought a lot of stuff there. Did take the opportunity to replace all my appliances on the cheap as they were clearing out.

Yeah I've got a lot of stuff from Sears from tools to lawn equipment and appliances and workout machines. I'll have to go see if I can catch some steals

Maybe you'll get lucky and save a bunch of cash on appliances for the new house to add to the shop budget.

The one thing everybody wishes they did was to build it bigger!
Lol yeah can never have to big a shop. Plans were actually for a 40 x 50 x 16 but the city shut it down, city building codes are ridiculous out here so that's why it went down to a 36 x 48 x 14. Also plans were to have the doors spaced evenly but that got shut down as well, first door has to be 16' from the street (no clue why) and I didnt want to move the shop over any more because I plan on the space between the house and shop being for my trailer that I dont have lol. Even though the whole "street" is my property door still has to be 16' away from it.
