I have searched this topic but found nothing, sorry if someone covered this already.

I love the look of a shorty, but the one I bought I need to be sitting next to the radio tower to remotely hear the local AM station. Does anyone know of anything better? Thanks in advance for the help!

Yes please. I've been wondering this also. All the reviews I have read on the craven antenna are horrible fro reception

I got one from a parts store a while back that was 12" long instead of the 32" or whatever is stock and it does ok for reception. Please take that with a grain of salt because I live in the flatest place on earth.

I have a 6" shorty antenna and it works just like the stock one would. I got it off of ebay, it might even be a 4" not sure

I have the 6" shorty that everyone recommends....it SUCKS. Unless I'm actually in NYC I get nothing in terms of reception. Lucky I stick to mostly xm and ipod.....

I bought the one from craven speed off amazon and so far from what I can tell my channels still come in clear. Even if they didn't I use my satellite radio most of the time. It looks really good too.

Yes the Craven Speed is what I have, and it does look great -only reason I bought it- but seems rather useless. Thanks to all those who answered back :)

I just received the Craven Stubby and love the way it looks, but the the reception is about equal to no antenna at all.

Just an idea for you all . . . I took the stock one, pulled the ball off of the end, cut it down to 12", used loctite to glue the ball back on, and painted it black . . . Looks better, reception is no different than standard length, and it didn't cost me a dime

^^ good idea. I got mine at AutoZone, I believe it's an 8" and I want to say it was under $10. Had it for awhile now and the reception is very close to my stock antennae was. Very happy with it and it looks good. I have read positive feedback from others who have bought this or a similar one. I'm in South Jersey for reference.

I also have the Craven stubby and my recpetion actually hasn't changed much. The only time I really have an issue is if I'm in a covered area like larking garage. On the hiway heading out of town, the distance I can still listen is only a few km (miles) less.

Great Idea. I did mine today. Took me all of 15 minutes and my reception is still fine.
