Should I buy it?

Ok guys, first post here. I am looking into maybe buying a 2004 1500 4x4 hemi Ram. The guy is asking $7900, I know great price right, hhmm, well, the catch it has 240,000 highway miles. The truck looks almost brand new inside and out, also as a hard shell bed cover. Oh yes it is a Laramie as well. He says the maintanence was all kept up on t including oil changes every 3,000 miles.

Should I jump on it? Any other questions I should ask before hand?

Thanks for any help in advance,,,, Jeremy.

One of the main reasons I was looking into that one is any others around here even with 120,000 are 14-18k

I agree. Things are going to start happening with it. Big things.

I would offer less, then rip that motor apart and rebuild. If your buying it for $7,200 or less, then you'll have the money to drop some extra parts and give the motor a good cleaning.

But yeah, that's definately a lot of miles.

Thanks for all the opinions so far.
I was thinking about offering him 6500 or 7000 for it so I would have a little extra left over if anything happened. But Im not sure I want to try and have the headache of everything failing on me at once.
I can rebuild the motor or drop in another one I just dont know if I want to have to deal with that right now. It would be a vehicle for the whole family so we could go on some road trips this summer. Its just so clean though :(.
My Ramcharger only gets maybe 11mpg on the highway and with as high as it is doesnt handle very well. Plus we were wanted to take the kids to Disneyland this year and I would be running over people in the Ramcharger instead of stopping in that L.A. traffic, lol.
I found another one too but it has 200,000 and they are asking 11,000 for that one. Dam people around here think they are made of gold, especially if it says hemi.

Is the 4.7L trucks even worth looking at? Have heard the 4.7L having issues in the bigger trucks?

I agree with others...move on to another...unless you want to replace the engine just to be safe..

look on ebay in other areas and see what you can find...and have it shipped if possible.

FYI you might want to put your location on you avatar so we know where area of this country of ours... I didn't know where you were until you said Disneyland...

I think that is a great truck. Mechanically, things can be fixed. It's the worn out interior parts and other crap that get to be near impossible to deal with.

It's likely a great truck. The price seems a touch high for a 1/4 million miles though. I'd top out around 6k

Welcome! from what youre saying i wouldnt think it would be that bad of a deal if you can talk them down. thats a really really clean truck and most likely if they took that good care of the looks, its probably pretty mechanically sound too. but only if you have the time and money for repairs later on... could get expensive

the 4.7s arent bad, if you dont need the power of the hemi, theyre well worth it. how well the truck was kept up with determines the problems youre gonna experience

Oh you guys are making this hard. The interior and exterior is what has me so hooked.

Everything else that I have seen the last 2-3 months with lower miles is more expensive, the interiors are not that good, and the exteriors usually have big dents or major scratching and chipping.

If something breaks or fails most of it will be a bolt on exchange, unless of course the engine, trans, or transfer case decide to grenade.
I would figure he has taken really good care of it since it does look like new still and it passed our wonderful smog laws out here.
May try to go look at it tomorrow, but Im in the process of fixing the wifes grandpas beat to hell ranger. It has been on CL for awhile now so Im not thinking he has had any offers, may shoot him a low offer and see. If not the search continues, lol.

bottom line, i would say if you dont have money for something serious like engine or tranny, leave it alone.
