No idea yet... It has a rattling/clunk coming out of the rear differential when I hit bumps/come to a stop. When I checked the fluid, I didn't have time to pull it all apart/diagnose/repair, so until I can research it more and gather some parts, I threw in a new batch of 75W90. The truck still drives fine, just makes noises.
did your truck need the pinion nut recall?

This is by brother-in-laws truck, his wife used it to run errands this winter, snow obscured the lines on the road and she got to far over into on coming traffic. Damaged from the front quarter all the way to the rear tail light. No one was injured in the making of this OOOPS!

Boat ramp blues

I THOUGHT there was solid cement under the rocks...I was wrong. Tide was coming in fast. A Ram Diesel and a Hummer H2 tried to pull me out. 2'' of SALT water inside the cab by the time the tow truck winched me out. Traded it in on my new RAM 5 days later.

Thread isn't long enough for all of my goof ups. Too many to tell!

Gotta start somewhere! Give us a few quick samples.

:naughty:

Damn Scott. That sucks!!!! After starting to "beach launch" my boat out here on Lake Powell, for the first time in 18 years of boat ownership (ramps here are too damn long, steep and crowded, especially when in the triple digits) I started just backing in on the local beach. Seriously, in SoCal, I was so used to short, drop off ramps that we could park on the shoulder of I never even considered risking it. The ramps out here are awesome in one respect, as they are super wide and go WAY out there and you remain on concrete even with these record low water levels because the big ramps were built before, or as the lake was filling up due to the Glenn Canyon Dam. On the other hand, they are more like super huge runways for the Space Shuttle or something.

But, even in the Power Wagon, I admit making my son get out and walk back into the water behind the trailer as we dip in, just to make sure there are no hidden sudden drop offs or shelves. So far, so good.

Photo also just confirms why I spend big bux foolishly buying brand new, as opposed to used. That truck will end up on the West Coast somewhere on a lot and the new owner will never figure out why it is rusting to death from the inside out and smells like Starfish in the middle of the dry Southwestern US.

Glad you got a new truck though!

I didn't get a picture of it but I was washing my truck a few weeks ago and had the wiper arms up. Not thinking I went and popped the hood to top of the washer fluid before I put the arms down. Nice big paint chip on the back edge of my hood. Nothing a little touchup couldn't fix, but I still felt like a *******.

Funny , after chatting with rhodeislandscott about shore launching and seeing his pics and hearing of the extent of his damage, what did I go and do?

Not wanting to deal with the crowds and inconvenient drive over to one of the airport runway sized numerous launch ramps in the area, we decided over the weekend to again beach launch my own little open bow boat for a quick little sunset cruise.

Problem was, I happened to be in an area where the underwater "shelf" and angle of decline into the water was extremely shallow. Plus, I listened to my buddy saying "C'mon Back, C'mon Back" while looking over my shoulder at the boat, waiting for it to float off the trailer, rather than occasionally looking around and soaking in exactly how far out I was getting.

Little did I know, until I noticed that I was damn near out to the "No Wake Zone" buoy line that my truck was in deep, up over the lower door seals, among other things.

End result was fine. Some damp carpet, a freshly washed out muffler and it pulled itself and the boat right out, with not so much as even a hint of wheel spin. I DO need to check my diff and transfer case fluids for contamination, just incase the "one way" breather vent caps failed, but other than that, it was all good. Though it did look very dramatic there for a minute.

Just a quick update: I checked all the fluids, and both diffs were perfectly fine! No water contamination anywhere.

Worse thing to happen, due to my own stupidity in opening the driver side door and allowing water into the cab, was a little damp carpet and water invading my in storage compartment in the driver side rear floor. Not a puddle, but just barely damp enough to get my leather winch kit gloves a little moist.

The driver side was considerably lower into the water than the passenger side, and both would have been fine, had I left the door closed.

But, it all worked out after a little time in the hot sun to air out the carpet under the floor mats.

Putting all new brakes on my '85 and wasn't paying attention when I grabbed the brake cylinder on the driver's side. I didn't realize it until I moved over to the passenger's side. The first drum is all put together so I'm not going back to switch them. I think I'll just bend a new line, they're all rusty anyway.....

It has been a few months... why not two in one weekend?

I have managed via skill, luck or plain because I haven't been doing anything lately, to avoid mechanical breakage or finding myself a helpless victim at the end of a tug strap in a very long time.

That all changed, when I ended up with at "Two-For-Two" weekend; Two different outings , two different vehicles, two individual recovery strap yanks. Thankfully, only resulting in one, minor bit of affordable and not so inconvenient breakage.

First: Saturday, running up a (much steeper and softer than it looks) huge rain rut leading out of a ravine branching off a local sand wash. Half way up, rear Universal Joint Grenades. Front Wheel still turning, ended up digging in further just trying to get into a position where I could back myself off the incline, out of the wash and motor home via Front wheel drive. No luck. Ended up being yanked out by the wife's Rubicon.

Sunday rolls around, and time to try another spot. After a few hours of playing, we attack a known mushy, off camber side hill climb.

BFG M/T's Aired down, swaybar disconnected, 4-Lo, front and rear Diffs Locked up, and it still sank to the point that it sat on it's belly pan and now it too needed a quick tug from the recovery strap. Two minutes, and we were off and 'wheeling again... but now with the interior full of damp, wet sand. *Who's wise idea was it to roost around in the dunes with the windows down in the first place?!!!!!!

:roflsquared: Hope you guys are out there having as much fun as I am! :favorites13:

First winter I had my '99 (I believe this was 2007 or 2008), I was driving on a narrow gravel road in BFE. Open fields on both sides, fresh snow on top of glazed over ice with 50+ mph crosswinds and bald tires...

Had it in 4-hi before I lost it. Wind just pushed more than the tires were able to hold traction.

Took my friend almost an hour of tugging with his '94 K5 Blazer before I was out, and he was in on the other side! :roflsquared:

Oh, come on! There have to be "others" out there.

BTW, I am just getting started... :roflsquared:

Rubicon up above Flagstaff, AZ. after a brief snow earlier this year.
