I'm in the process of buying all the stuff for my lift and i'm looking at rims and tires. I see a lot of people running 20" rims, and I like the look but I'm a bigger fan of more tire less rim. I would like to get 37" tires but say with a 17" or 18" rim. Pros and Cons? Any people running a setup like that on here?

Id say 18's...if I could do it all over again I'd run 18's! Cheaper wheels, cheaper tires, and more protection for off roading purposes!

Personally, 18's look pretty good with 35's, but if your going to 37's I like the 20's. 18's with 37's is just too much tire for me. But then again, if your an avid mudder, like GlocknRam stated, 18's are gonna give a much better offroad ride!

Cool. Thanks for the input guys. Hopefully someone comes along that has a 18" rim with 37" tires. I seen some around online on other trucks but I want to see the setup on a ram.

Does anyone on the site have 37" tires on the stock 20's?

Just look at the price of tires for 17, 18 and 20 wheels.

17s are typically considerably cheaper, the difference between 18 and 20 isn't much.
Personally I think 17/35s are ideal.

I agree that I like more tire with less rim I have been looking into going up to a 35 when I get ready to do my lift (just gotta pull the trigger) but what size rim I run a 17 now with 33's it looks good I have been looking around at pics I think the 18's and 35's might be ideal for my taste.

does the size of the rim matter in overall height? I mean, Is a 35" tire on a 17" wheel the same height as a 35" on a 20" rim? Is the tire the same with just a bigger hole cut out for the rim? Sorry for the kind of dumb questions but I am looking at putting some on my rig and I want to make sure I kind of know what I am doing at the tire shop. Eventually I will lift my truck, but for now I just have bilstein 5100's on all 4 corners with the front raised 2.8". It came stock with 20" but because of the price difference i would rather go with a 17" but I want to keep or gain a little ground clearance until i can buy the lift. Any advise and help?

A 37" tire on a 17" rim is going to be a little smaller because the sidewall flex. The 20" tire would have stiffer sidewalls making the diameter appear larger when its on the ground and flexing.

the tires for 17-18" rims are considerably lighter though because they need less side wall reinforcement.

I will be switching to 18's to go to 37s I prefer the look of a lot of rubber.

Sorry about the dirty truck. 35" Goodyear duratac on 18" rims. These tires offer great protection of the rims.
