Snorkel

due to the fact that I love off roading and I want my intake above water and dust I've been thinking on installin a snorkel.

please post pics if you've done it.

also I'm looking towards your input on this one.

If you're going through water that's over your headlights there's a lot more you'll have to worry about.

There is a lot of things people miss with this. Increasing your fording depth isn't just the snorkel. Make sure you address the fresh air side of your pcv system. front and rear, t case and trans vent tubes.
Your want to convert to an e fan as fording puts huge stress on your belt system from the fan. You'll need to better seal your P/S cap as it is also vented. I would also think better sealing or relocating your PCM would be a good idea.

Note: I've had my truck pretty deep off road and I've found that a lot water comes through the steering shaft grommet and makes for cold feed so I'd look into that too.

Happened to run across this post...I'm working on a resto-mod 97 Ram 1500 with 5.2 eng. Our group is building it out as a disaster response vehicle for our local team (and to give a couple of our older veterans something worthwhile to occupy their time...we've been granted access to the garage at the Pacific Missile Range Facility should we need it). We decided to do it with the older truck, as (1) it's paid for and donated, (2) it's been very well taken care of mechanically, and we're OK with that status, and (3) we think that, if we're lucky, we'll be able to still get certain upgrade parts. There's decent clearance to the fan, belts, and other vulnerable spots in the engine compartment, and we'll be sealing those areas that need it. Everyone who would be driving this vehicle will be a veteran with beaucoup experience in offroad driving. Bottom line, though...I've been scouring for a direct-fit snorkel for this puppy for months, it seems, and just haven't found any joy. Can anyone point me to a decent source? I'm almost to the point of fabbing one myself.
