my 02 has the 4.7 and im looking for some ideas. i am looking to get a little more power but keeping my budget in check is key. i am very capable mechanic but i was a life long ford guy, so i am a little out of my league with these rams. i was thinking about CAI and better plugs and maybe a programmer too at some point. what are the better ways to play with these trucks and not spend more than a new truck would cost? i already did sea foam and engine restore. i put on a flowmaster also.. any help is appreciated, thanks

Don't waste your time with high quality plugs. The normal NGK v power will do just fine. I don't know if they make headers for the 4.7 but if you can find some that'll do some good. Then a tuner, intake, and maybe a sonnax line booster to get you better shifts.

Definitely a programmer, better exhaust (whole system not just catback). Better gears always help (dunno if you have 2wd or 4wd, that dictates how $$ it will be). A better TC matched to your combination as well. HO cams are hard to come by but are an excellent mod to your year 4.7, as well as pairing them with an 08+ intake manifold.

We aren`t that much owners of 4.7L, so nice to have you on this forum.
I would definitely suggest CAI (K&N or Volant), tuner, and maybe Ported Throttle Body (Matt from Moe`s Performance is supposed is supposed to come out with a TB for our truck model anytime soon). If you want more, maybe gears (4.56s), and HO cams but Ive heard they are really hard to find, and if you do its expensive.

Best thing to do with a 4.7 is to re-gear your diffs, the 4.7 makes better power and fuel economy at higher RPMS, I went from 3.55 to 4.56 in my 4.7 Dakota and there wasn't one downside to the swap, way more fun to drive, no downshifting on the highway, power when you needed it and I got more kms to a tank of fuel

Gears and a tuner are going ot give you the most noticable power gains. For the tuner, I would go with a Superchips Flashpaq. These are only $329.

Gears are another great upgrade, but can get expensive if you are 4wd and have to do both axles.

Considering i live in Colorado snow and ice can be a reason to use 4wd if needed, but summer is around the corner and i would love to do my rear now and later down the road do the front. The way i see it as long as you dont switch to 4wd you should be fine correct? I know the front is more expensive for parts and labor so it will be done i would just like to get started with the rear first. Also IIRC you or someone else told me that if you use the 4.56 gears in the 07 1500 that the ring gear would have to be ground for proper fitment. Is that true and would installing 4.10s require the same modifications to the ring gear?

Just leave your front drive shaft off, if you don't plan on running a larger tire size, 4.10's will do just fine
