I am getting my build in order and I want to know what kind of clearance I have from the speaker to the the door grill.

I am using Focal 165AS speakers with a 2 9/16" mounting depth. I know the depth should be ok but I need to make up a mounting plate to adapt the speaker to the 6x9 hole. What thickness of material should I use to keep me safe from the speaker not bumping into the grill? Obviously the thicker the better for rigidity.

Thanks,

You can use 1/2in mdf but if the focals have a ton of xmax you might have problems. To be safe you can always rabbit the ring down to 1/4in. I am running dynaudio 150mw's so I don't think you will have to much trouble with 1/2in.
