The airflow over that hood makes those vents virtually useless even if they ARE open. Not to **** on the mod, I'm glad it's atleast functional. But for those looking for a "ram air" effect from this, it won't happen.

"Ram Air" is a misrepresented phrase used to describe a type of intake or whatnot. A lot of physics go into designing a real ram air intake, obviously. "Ram Air Style" is what should really be said instead.. But it's easier to just say Ram Air... I've been doing research on this exact mod, and I'm starting to doubt whoever said the aerodynamics of the truck won't allow enough airflow through the scoop(s) for any benefits.

A simple test would be : hemi29, drive down the highway with you vent taped and without tape, while monitoring your intake air temperature. Measured IAT should drop with the vent allowing airflow, if it actually works. If you don't have the ability to datalog, look up a wiring diagram and probe the IAT sensor with a multimeter and watch for a change in voltage. :favorites13:

From guys whom I respect their longtime knowledge, the inlets would have to be at least 2" above the surface of the hood to be considered a scoop.
If you already paid for the sport hood this couldn't hurt. But it would still be cheaper to buy a Vararam or S&B with scoop (*also NOT really a scoop, but another large air inlet)

If the air pockets in this hood are useless because of their location, what does that have to say about the shaker hood set up?

I understand that they don't "ram" air but they will be perfectly capable of drawing in ambient temperature air from outside of the engine bay. To me, the factory intake supply is too small. This may correct that and it's clean...

Even back in the muscle car heyday this type of thing was far more show than go.Nothing has really changed in this aspect.

I've had the ram air intake and the mopar cai for a week now it doesn't fit perfect but it does seal good now I had water in the cai but it was when the truck was sitting there is a drain hole in the cai witch does a good job the filter does stay dry I am very happy so far.

I never thought about that. It would seem this design would take in water just as readily as air in wet conditions.

Thanks for the pics! It does just use one single vent on the hood correct? No both?

It's another source of intake air, but it's not "ram" air.

Can't imagine it bringing in much air at all.
Put a plastic bag over it and have someone rev the engine while you try to take it off...
