I have an issue with my 2011 ram. Started about a month ago when the truck would not fire up. Turned the key and it would just crank (at normal speed). Turned the key off and recranked and it fired right up with no further issues.
It would do this maybe once a week but would always fire the second time.
One time it fired right up but sputtered and died. Then started after retrying. Al of these issues were the first start of the day after sitting overnight.
Fast forward to Thursday where, after a long drive and an hour sit the truck would not start at all. Tried cranking several times with no luck. I opened the hood, checked the air filter and opened/closed the gas cap (thinking vapor lock) and it fired. No issues the rest of the day.
Yesterday, no start in the morning. Tried gas cap and air filter with no fix. Dinked around under the hood not really doing anything with no luck. I PUT A BIT OF STARTING FLUID IN IT AND IT FIRED BUT DIED. I swapped fuel pump relay with another one and it started right up and no more issues.
Today, no start. I played relay roulette with no luck. I climbed under and can hear the fuel pump kicking on with the key. I tried cycling the pump several times (key on, key off) and tried cranking. The truck would start but stutter and stall. I had to leave and came back an hour later and it started right up.
The only thing I can think is that the sun has been shining on the truck warming it up causing it to start.
Does anyone have any advice on what to try in the morning when the truck probably won't start to try to fix the issue?
I know it's a long winded post but I'm just trying to give all information I have.
Thanks for any advice you may have.
