I have a 2005 1500 Ram,
When I start it first thing in morning I have no problem, I back it it up and turn it off. when I try it again, it hesitates and then it doesn't start likes it's getting no fuel. Any help would be appreciated.

Is the check engine light on? Does the check engine light ever come on when the problem occurs?

How long does it take for the engine to restart? Does the engine always restart instantly after it dies or do you have to crank for an extended period of time?

Does it occur when the fuel tank is in a certain range? When you attempt to restart the engine, right when you turn the key to the run position, do you hear the fuel pump running? You should hear the pump buzzing in the tank. The pumps make a high-pitched whine when running.

Get a fuel pressure gauge and attach it to the fuel rail after the truck has been sitting all night. Then, turn the key to the run position and monitor the fuel pressure.

Next, start the engine like you always do and monitor the fuel pressure.

Do you normal routine to get the engine to die. When you attempt to restart the engine monitor the fuel pressure again.

That will tell you if it is fuel pump/pressure related.

Engine light doesn't come on at all. Sometimes it starts up first thing but when I turn it off and try to restart it does not start. Also the pump is running but this morning it wouldn't start first thing I just hit it with a small squirt of starting fluid and it fired right up. I'm at a loss.

Possible injectors leaking? Smell the oil on dipstick for gas. When you say not starting do you mean engine isn’t cranking? I had that issue when hot and in turned out to be bad ground from battery to engine block. I unhooked the negative grounds and sanded down the mating surfaces, applied lithium grease and it fixed it.

No injectors leaking no smell of gas from the dipstick. He used to start the first time and then when I shut it off it wouldn't start now it's to the point where it won't even start I'm thinking it's probably the fuel pump
