Anybody notice a slight creaking or rubbing sound inside the truck cabin when you turn your steering wheel at idle?

I first noticed this a couple of months ago when it was much colder (only 300 miles on 2017 Ram 1500 at that time). I was hoping it would go away as the weather warmed up, but it hasn't (still less than 3,000 on truck).

Full disclosure: My hearing is terrible, so the sound may actually be coming from somewhere else. With that said, I'm not positive, but it sounds like the "creaking" noise is coming from the vicinity of the steering column boot on the firewall (where arrow is pointing in attached pic).

Anybody else heard this? If so, what was the fix? I don't really want to go back to dealer for a warranty repair if it is something simple.

Mine has a creak/clunk at full turn to the left and not the right. Also sounds like it’s in the steering column. Haven’t been able to figure it out yet..

I can hear the slight creaking sound more when I turn the wheel left than right. In my case, the noise doesn't sound "mechanical," but then again my hearing sucks.

I'm wondering if some sort of lubricant (silicon spray, WD-40, petroleum jelly, whatever...not sure what would be appropriate) around that white ring where the steering column goes through the boot might help. Scared to use anything that will damage the boot or cause it to deteriorate.

I noticed it today when I was trying to get turned around on the back 40 in a tight spot between trees. I had my windows down and wondered if the sound was always there. To me it was like the sounds your brakes make as they barely release from a stop and it's kind of a creak noise from the pads rubbing.

Did you ever get this resolved? I'm experiencing something very similar, if not the same, issue. I recorded a video and created a post here: https://www.ramforum.com/threads/creaking-sound-inside-when-turning-or-wiggling-in-seat.148769/

Thanks for any help in advance!!!

I think it has worked itself out.

My truck is not my daily driver.

It occurred more in the colder temps it seems.

Now that it’s warmed up-it hasn’t been an issue.

Who knows
