It can't hurt. Engineers can scream and yell all day long about problems and propose all kinds of solutions. But in the end, it is profits that rule, and cutting corners is the quickest way.

With the problems I had in taking delivery of my Ram, someone had to have taken notice.

It's sorta comical how Chrysler is the whipping boy for QC issues, when I have owned many vehicles from all the Big 3, plus Toyota, Volvo, VW, and Acura(Honda), and our Mopar stuff is a very close second to the Acura. 6 of our last 7 vehicles have been Mopar.

That aside, all this new stuff is totally overcomplicated, and it's a definite crapshoot.

Those engineers work fast..

Remember that this is measuring reliability the amount of problems over 3 years of ownership. It is not the current model. Initial Quality is the one that measures current production and problems within the first 90 days.

That said, they are largely the prettiest pig at the fair:

This year’s results mark the highest-recorded problem count since the VDS was redesigned in 2022, highlighting an ongoing industry-wide trend in which vehicle dependability has degraded during the past three years.

Ram did improve: 242 problems per 100 vehicles in 2025, now 216.

Jeep is at 267, down from 275.

Chevrolet and Ford both declined.

"New group of Engineers" .......... It is only a matter of time until a "new" Engineer discovers Rope Rear Main Seals .... Again!
Some of those guys shouldn't be let out in the day time!!!
When I worked for the USG in comms ages ago, there was one engineer on site that was always fiddling with things. We had some equipment problems one day and he wandered by and started throwing out random ideas about possible solutions, to the point it was getting on my nerves. I finally just picked up a hammer and said let me take a look at it and see what I can do. He immediately walked off, I put the hammer down and then me and another guy fixed the problem. Didn't see him the rest of the day, which made me happy.

The hydraulic control unit recall that's been dragging on for 3 or 4 years is a sign of how messed up Chrysler is.

My abs, traction control and cruise control has not worked for roughly 5 years. The truck is 8 years old. Chrysler refuses to address the issue and is only now starting to have parts availability to fix it.

I have talked to Chrysler customer support several times, and they just blow it off. I finally got through to somebody who said they would reimburse me if my local dealer fixed it. They said it should cost $400 to $500. My dealer quoted me over $200 just to diagnose it, then another 2000 to $2,500 for the repair.

There is a 0% chance I will by another Chrysler.

Everybody has problems now and then, but how you solve those problems shows your true colors.

What's the latest on the 2026 SST?

We test drove one last week.
We also test drove 2026 Chevy Turbomax, 5.3L and the 6.2L in their 1500's

My unbiased expert opinion in comparing(based purely on test drives) RAM to GM is this:
RAM is superior to GM in:
a.) Interior Dash Appeal
b.) Interior Quietness while driving = less noise from outside air and surrounding sounds
c.) 0-60 SPEED
d.) Smoothness of Transmission/Shifting
e.) Smoothness of Ride

If the SST was reliable, I would be in one today!!!

Currently in a 2022 RAM 1500 HEMI without the nonsense eTorque

More people would buy a New RAM HEMI without the eTorque

I don't know anything that isn't already common knowledge at this point. The motors themselves seem to be fine (so far), the transmission is a known good design that's very robust, and the electrical system is a **** show at launch but the software has been patched a few times. However, are the issues with the physical harnesses persisting? I don't know. My buddy works for Ford now so my last "inside source" isn't available any longer.

Not so fast. The article says the recommendation comes from aggregating problems reported by owners of 33,000-plus 2023-model-year vehicles. They used that data to rank models based on problems per 100 vehicles. Using 2023 data to predict 2026 reliability is, well, a walk in the dark. Also, they may, but I don't know, issues with the infotainment systems should be separated out. Every manufacturer has ongoing infotainment SNAFUs.

You can't fix issues by hiring more engineers, but you will create initial chaos ("Too many cooks spoil the broth" analogy). It is the experience and lessons engineers gain over time that prevent issues. If the engineers they hire lack extensive automotive experience, it will take them a few years to get there. Here is a salute to the bean counters who decided engineering is too expensive and laid off their higher-paid engineering staff. And with them go all the experience and the lessons learned.
