I was behind an Ecodiesel today. I'm not sure what year it was, but it looked like mine, and mine is a 2016. Anyway, it STUNK!!!! It just wreaked of diesel stink. So bad it was almost making my eyes water just following the thing. I don't think mine stinks like that. What would make it stink so badly just driving through town?

I know that mine has a very strong stench to it,
I have been around several older diesels and they can have a strong smell of diesel,
but my pickup I have to shut off to unload any thing from the box, never had to before.
I feel that it is the emissions system likely the DEF causing the horrible stench.

I thought part of the reason for the DEF was to get rid of the stench. Maybe not. It was bad though. Really bad. I almost pulled over to let him get ahead of me so I wouldn't be choking on it any more

There is a horrible smell when DEF doesn’t burn off the spot properly in the DPF. Usually comes from massive amounts of idling and not enough driving to burn off all the buildup, and then once you do, and it gets heated up enough, there’s usually a lot of white smoke and a bad odor.

Unless you were smelling sulfur from the fuel in a deleted truck.

You can not find fuel with enough sulfur to make the exhaust stink in this country.

It's possible that the guy unplugged his EGR without a tune, GDE has stated doing this can cause the truck to smell bad when it runs.
I did just read about someone adding a catalytic converter to their deleted EcoD to clean up the smell. The first thing even in the factory exhaust (part of the DPF) is a Diesel Oxide Catalyst.
If it was a DEF issue, I'm guessing it would have had a familiar ammonia/***** smell to it

DEF is injected into the SCR which is a separate device after the DOC/DPF.
