So I have a 2004 Ram 1500 Quad cab and just replaced the fuel pump on it. Took the easy route since we had no lift and detached the bed pulled it back making sure to not stretch the harness or anything. Replaced the fuel pump. Drove it about 70 miles and then the check engine light came on. Now it is giving a code p0627.

So we did change the relay around to see if possible I had a bad relay but that wasn't the case. The truck currently starts right up. Doesn't start and then die. It drives normal and nothing appears to be out of the normal. I have talked to several people and they are 1/2 and 1/2 on this.

Can anyone give me any ideas or suggestions as to what I am overlooking or missing?

Here are some thoughts:

P0627 DODGE - Fuel Pump Relay Control Circuit

Possible causes
  • Faulty fuel pump relay
  • Faulty fuel pump
  • Fuel pump harness is open or shorted
  • Fuel pump circuit poor electrical connection
Possible symptoms
  • Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)
P0627 Dodge Description
The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the Fuel Pump Control Circuit. The ECM sets the OBDII code when the Fuel Pump Control Circuit is out of factory specifications.

Is the replacement pump factory or aftermarket? Occasionally, you'll come across an aftermarket part that a vehicle just doesn't get along with.

Have you reset the codes to see if the P0627 returns? Sometimes you have a leftover from a pending or existing code, they usually go away after a few drive cycles or after being cleared.

EDIT - Your link to the pump isn't coming up.

That one review claims he had back to back defective units. That doesn't give a warm fuzzy feeling.
