I have a fairly new 2018 Tradesman 6.4 with 17k miles. Fan has only 4 speeds and just does not seem to blow as hard as it should. My sons Ford Focus with a 4cyl seems to blow harder. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Ram a/c fans suck compared to almost any other brand vehicle. There's probably nothing wrong w/ it. Search the forum, or google for rams a/c not blowing hard and you'll get 100's of posts like yours. I had this same question last summer... I live in Phoenix, AZ and my (then brand new) '18 2500 tradesman 4 speed fan blew w/ less power than level 2 of the 5 speed fan of the '04 suburban I was driving before I bought it.

Check your cabin air filter. . . one thing I noticed when I recently changed to one of the Fram Fresh Breeze filters was that it was more restrictive than the stock OEM filter. Replace your filter with OEM or similar if it hasn't been done recently.

PG Cabin Air Filter PC4579| Fits 2016-20 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500, 2019-20 1500 Classic, 2007-12 Mazda CX-7, 2010 Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0031GX5PM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_-Wu8EbJMV69JH
This one is way better than stock. It has more pleats so it flows more air across the filter. I noticed more air Flow than I did with the stock filter.

There is a difference between velocity which is "how hard it blows" and volume (the amount of air moving).
By changing the ducting in a vehicle you can have the same volume of air come out of the vents at a higher velocity. Ram has lowered the velocity to reduce cabin noise.

Be sure you are hitting the "recirculate" function - on my truck I think it's an arrow with a 90 degree bend or something like that. That seems to kick it up a bit. I agree with the others that the Ram fans just aren't great compared to some other brands of vehicles I've had.

Man, I actually love how hard my air blows! I'm usually cold after 4-5 minutes in the Texas summers!

I'll have to check my 2017. I can really tell the difference in the air velocity between it and my '97 a/c.

His Ford Focus should fit in your glovebox so stick it in there and use his fan....:D

Seriously though does it blow slow in all settings, ac, heat & defrost? I'm thinking that a vent is stuck or not working.

Or the resistor block getting ready to go out, maybe?

I have same truck, as I understand the blower motor is the same as a 7 speed, high and low are the same. Just less speeds in between. Not sure how much difference a car versus house AC is, but the slower air moves over the coils the more moisture is removed from the air, the more comfortable it is with lower humidity. It is important to recirculate air in summer since the AC can only cool the air to about 20 degrees less than the ambient temperature. So starting at 95 the maximum lower temp starts at 75. It then reduces to a lowest possible temperature but if you bring in fresh air your cooling capability is greatly reduced.

Is it cooling your truck, you have to consider the interior square footage also in relation to this. The air vent hose size in your Ram also is probably twice the diameter of a focus. And to be a smarta@# I thought it was common knowledge how well ford blows.

Just a follow-up, my truck was out in sun all day yesterday, within a couple minutes on 3rd speed my truck was cool in front and back. My young'n and wife will always let me know if it is too hot. If your truck seems hot have pressure checked and if that doesn't work maybe there is air in line. Also read some issues with different filters, maybe try without it to see if that makes a difference, then get a good flow filter from recommendations on this forum. Good luck.

Put it in auto it will blow much harder. Same with the wiper blade speed it’s much faster when it’s in rain sensor mode.

Thanks for all the posts. Going to try cabin filter. Just changed air filter and that was pretty clean. Truck is 11 months old and not driven in harsh conditions at all. It blows cold and cools fine just wondered about amount of air.

make sure you are not drawing outside air in, that will be slower. Having it recirculate will be colder and faster

Fords are blowhards? Just kidding..... try replacing the cabin filter!
