Just thought I'd give my initial impression of this antenna.

I just bought the 6 3/4" Rubber Manual Mast and installed it last night. I listen to a morning show on a station that is about 45 miles away with some hills in between. Even with the stock mast, the reception would break up in certain spots. This morning, with the stubby, reception was as good (or maybe even slightly better than) as the stock mast.

With the new stubby the truck looks cleaner. I would say I'm pretty happy with this little guy! Well worth the $25 I spent.

I have the same one from the Antenna Source and initially didn't like it so I put a standard style 10" mast on, no better. Went back to stock mast and hated it! Put the stubby back on and really tested and realized it's just as good as the stock for me so on it stays. What bugged the crap outta me was that it didn't cover the black post on the base so I fabed a post cover using a large plastic screw cover. Hard to tell it's not the antenna now.

I thought about changing but found my stock antenna works well for a guide pulling into garages to tell if it will hit or not.

I'm actually thinking the opposite way. I hit every time I pull into the garage, and I'd rather I didn't. Probably not good that I've desensitized myself that much. Someday its gonna bite me I think!

If you remove your ball from the end of the factory antenna, you can cut it to length so it doesn’t touch when you go in your garage, then press the ball back on. I went short with mine (6 inches), but you don’t have to cut it that short.

The factory replacement antennas from the dealer are like $20. I bought a backup, so if I want to swap it out I can.

Thanks! Been considering getting one but was worried about the reception. Will probably order one now

If you know your truck will fit that's great you can also hang a tennis ball from the ceiling to tell you if your going to hit or where even to stop in your garage. I go into parking ramps and the garages at work so I'm not 100 percent there the same. I do like the look of the bullet antenna but heard the signal is junk.

Do you have any pics? It bugs me too, so I’d like to try the screw cover but I can’t picture it...

Ran out and took a quick pic

Go to the hardware store and buy a screw cap cover.

These come in small and large size, you want large. Cut off the cap and enlarge the opening to fit over just the small chrome portion of the post. If i remember correctly a 15/32 bit is exactly the size and I used it like a hand reamer and trimmed with an exacto blade to fit. Turn upside down and fit over post and install antenna.

Since I don't park in underground parking structures I did away with the stock mast and went with this one. Love the look of it and the reception is as good as the stock mast. 20170607_185126[1] (450x800).jpg

I did the same thing but I only cut it level with my roof,A little heat to ball and it came right off. I then glued it back on painted it flat black and reinstalled the new "look" antenna.

got one a few weeks ago after reading this post and so far it perform as good as the factory one.

had a small stubby aluminum that faded to purple before and that one was only good in the city. then tried the 11 or 14" one and it would make whistle noise at highway speed and was not as good for reception so I was back to the factory one.

glad I found this post

Thanks

I've had 2 of them ripped off by the car wash rotating brushes. Dang it all. Now I'm not even sure what's left of the base and how to get another antenna on it.
