Hey do those short stubby aluminum carbon fiber antennas work as well as the factory "whip" antenna for am/fm on Rams. Looking to be more discreet and get rid of that long antenna if the universal ones work just as good

depends on where you live and listen to radio at. I find in city I have 100% same reception with standard radio and HD radio. however out in boonies hunting I have very poor signal. I don't listen to radio though i stream music from my phone so I don't care but if i did i would have to switch back to the wip

I was looking at reviews on Amazon for a stubby antenna, and most people say the reception is terrible. I've also read of people taking a door stop (the springy, wire ones) and plasti-dipping them, and using a bolt to connect it into the antenna receptacle. Supposed to work better, as it's all metal. There's a video on this mod somewhere online. Maybe Youtube it?

I didn't get the real short one, I got one less than half the factory length. I work a ways away from the stations in my area. Some of them you can't tell at all while a select few stations struggle through static. At home though where I'm only 20 - 30 minutes from most of the stations, I can't tell a difference at all. I would suspect reception in the city would be the same as it is even closer than where I live.

No -- not as good. Just cut your OE one down to the length you want. The tip is pressed on. It comes off, and can be installed on your new length. You'll also save .00001 MPG, because it's skinny and swirly.

That's FUNNY :***:

I learned that from a Ford salesman in '97 (I made up the number though). He pointed out the spiral antenna (first time I'd seen one) on the new F150. He said it was for airflow, aerodynamics, etc. :)

I bought a stubby one from Pepboys for $12, I cannot even see it from my drivers seat. I am right next door to NYC though so my reception is fine until I get a ways out then it gets bad.

Ha.
I got the same antenna and get similar results.

For the price, I think it works well.

I dont listen to the radio that much anyways, but I do keep the OEM antenna behind our backseat (just in case)
