So does cutting the stock antenna mess up the fm stations? In colorado mountain areas fyi...

I didn't cut my stock antenna. I still have it in case I want to put it back. The 7 inch antenna I have I purchased on ebay, link is in the first post. I would imagine cutting down the stock antenna would have about the same results as installing a shorter one. So, yeah, there will be some loss of reception with a shorter antenna.

I'm interested in this, as well.

What seems to be the best consensus?
The stubby one on eBay? The $10 whatchamacallit from Pep Boys?

I'd be interesting in getting rid of the abnormally long factory antenna, but not if it's going to compromise FM reception.

There will be some degree of compromise with a shorter antenna. I found the Stubby was useless for me. The 7 inch I have now is fine where I'm at. I didn't lose any stations, but may here some static occasionally while driving. YMMV

Picked up one from autozone. Works fine but I mostly listen to satellite or my iPhone.

So, quick update.

Antenna looks great and works well enough for sure.

Only problem is I am hearing a wind whistling noise at 70mph that I'm pretty sure wasn't there before. I just googled it and found some people complaining about the same thing in this type antenna. I'm going to have to remove it and check if the noise goes away to be sure.

Upside is that I really can't hear the noise when the radio is on. :)

I've got the same antenna and the same whistling noise at 70.

I think for a whopping $6, I'm gonna give this one a try.

stubby antenna - eBay

I just got this truck yesterday so for now, I still have access to SIRIUS.
I'll test out the FM reception with that thing I found on eBay.
If reception is gonna be compromised, regardless... I suppose at this point, it would merely be a matter of aesthetics.

The base is too big and so is the truck for a stubby. I think the stock antenna or nothing at all. Just me or does the antenna on the 4th gens seema bit primitive? They should of just put the fm antenna in xm/fm/am/nav antenna on the room like 90% of the other cars on the road..

Yup makes no sense. Just being cheap that's all. Bean counters

My 1998 GTP has the antenna in the back window and my old 2001 Buick Regal had it in the front window.

I think "primitive" is an excellent word for the factory antenna.

IMO, it simply sticks out like a sore thumb and detracts from the look of the vehicle.
I saw my truck for the first time on Saturday. I brought it home that same day. As I was walking around the passenger side of the vehicle, it was the first place my eyes went to.

Maybe it's just me...

I bought an aftermarket shorty and couldn't catch very good reception for close stations much less far away. Gave it away and took the ant. That came with truck carefully pulled and twisted ball off end and then cut it about in half gorilla glued the ball back on and great reception with a way shorter antenna
