I'm not very familiar with posting to forums, so apologies in advance for any mistakes.

Here's what led up to my current problem: About three weeks ago, my 2009 Dodge Ram (Hemi V8) had a serious transmission issue. I was towed to the dealer where I'd made the purchase. The experts got really weird readings from the transmission, so they took it completely apart and fixed it.

And here's my current problem: this morning I was backing the pickup into the garage where I store my pontoon. I was on cement flooring; the boat was attached. I was in tow mode. The boat and trailer together are about 2000 pounds, and I've never hauled anything heavier. The truck has never been driven by anyone but me (and the technicians who fixed the transmission). Oh, and I have less than 39,000 miles on the vehicle.

Suddenly, of its own volition, the truck revved loudly for a few seconds, and then went back to normal. Because of the transmission problem previously mentioned, I'm perhaps overly wary, but I wanted to ask: Does anyone know what could cause the spontaneous loud revving? Thanks for your help!

I can only think of an IAC or something of the like that would be freaking out, making in idle higher than normal.

Thanks much for your reply. I really appreciate it. I used to take cars apart, repair them, put them back together, etc. But, as you can tell from my age, those days are long gone, and when something unexpected happens, I'm out of my depth immediately. Too much computer stuff for me! Thanks again.

I have a little devil that often pushes my gas pedal to floor when I'm next to a Chevy, maybe he has a brother who is messing with you.

Thank you also, XTrooper. Sounds like it might not be something to panic about!

Thanks, Burla. I love that little devil you have -- and you never know: He might be replicating.

Hey RamBull how many times has it done this?

Not that I have a fix...just curious.

Welcome to RF.
Actually, today was the first time this ever happened. I'm hoping it was just a fluke of some kind, and that it won't happen again. Thanks for the welcome!

I had a similar issue with my truck. Found out it was the battery. I had no problems with it that I could tell, but battery wasn't holding a charge. I would come to a stop and the truck would race for a second and go back. After a while the truck would rev up to 1500 rpm in gear and not come back down. Took it in and 1 battery later it was good as new. Since your truck is a little older it may be the cause. Easy fix.

Hi, Shortbed, and thanks for posting in. I'm glad for everyone's thoughts on this, because, like I said, I'm too old to cope (by myself) with a computerized ride. It's like I look under the hood -- and there's nothing there I recognize! As you said, if it's a battery problem, at least that's not a tragedy. Thanks again.

You got it. Couldn't hurt to try it. Probably due for a new one right about now anyway. Hope it works for you.

The battery is the square box looking thing with big cables running to it. In case you didn't recognize it. HaHa Just kidding.

Maybe you can use another battery to test it with if it happens again. And it sounds like it might.

Good luck
