Superchips worth it?

A guy here in denver is selling the red super chips programmer for the 2004 hemi for $180.00 is it worth buying? I have only owned my truck for about 3 weeks now, bought it used with 90k miles now i have to do all the normal maintence brfore i do the things i really want to do? Any advice? Not looking forward to changing the spark plugs under the brake booster, but im going to attempt to do it today! Thanks guys!

i think its the 3865, but what the difference? do you have to get something seperate to do a tranny tune?

The 3865 does have trans tune options but if im not mistaken you don't have the options. They started in 05. 180 is cheap for a 3865. Is it locked?

the guy selling it says he put his truck back to stock before he sold it so it should be "unlocked" to use on other vehicles?

Ok I was mistaken. 04 does have trans options. There is an index of beta testers settings in the superchips section of the forum. Has 04 as an option. I bought mine locked, its gonna cost you another 140 to unlock it and get the trans tunes, they are vin locked

Yeah that would unlock it so it's only gonna be another 40 for the trans options. Make sure you read your truck before you buy the trans options. I goofed up and didn't and it was like buying it for the other guys truck. SC fixed it for me but it would avoid that

Wow, is the 3815 that badly regarded now? I know the trans options are great (I miss them on my 04 and need to get a programmer for my '10) but the 3815 still has decent benefits. What is the good going rate for a 15 these days?

It still has decent benefits, but not worth $180. I would the less than $150 is a good deal, 150 seems to be a very common asking price.

This price is probably going to fall some more once SC releases the VIVID. I would also expect to see a bunch of 3865 for sale as soon as it is released for less than 250

The 3815 is still a very nice tuner. Base tuning is the same as the newer hardware. Is the same as what VIVID will offer in base tuning.

You can't upgrade to the advanced trans options, but if all you're looking for is solid tuning it works just fine.

Not a bad deal either way, in base form it's basically the same tuning, same options as a 3865, just a larger from factor.
On either you would have the same canned tunes, same ability to raise the rev limiter, speed limiter, auto shift points, change tire size etc.

I tried the super chip on my 05 and didn't like it at all!! I went with Bully Dog gt gas tuner.... I got better fuel mileage, better fictions, and my quarter mile time went from 17.2 stock to 15.7 after the programmer on 87 pump gas. Bully Dog is great for diesel trucks and gas as well.

No it will not stop your engine, I don't think any tuner will.

Also you're in the wrong engine section.. We can help you out more in the cummins section.
