Switching from my Chrome Big Horn front bumper to a color matched 'Express' stlye?

I was in a small wreck this week, the front bumper along with the grill were trashed. I was thinking of taking the opportunity to see if my insurance will let me switch out the chrome bumper/grill for a color matched one of my truck as I am not a fan of the chrome.

The steel bumper held up pretty well in the wreck, so my only worries would be if the color matched one would hold up as well in the same situation. Sorry if this is ridiculous.

Not sure if the insurance company will authorize anything that is not what was original to your truck (especially if it costs more) However you can work with the body shop and pay the difference.

You don’t have to do a plastic bumper (Sport/Express) to get color marched ... You can get a steel ready-to-paint bumper exactly the same as your chrome one (Tradesman/Outdoorsman I think) and color match it ... Probably less hassle from insurance, and simple for the body shop

I didn't realize they had color matched steel bumpers like that, just pulled up some nice photos of the outdoorsman like you mentioned. I will definitely give them a call and see what they say. Thank you for the idea

I have never had an insurance company actually demand to see the finished product. They have always provided payment to me based on quotes of what the replacement cost would be.

Once I got the check, I could do whatever I want with the money, including saving money going with an aftermarket grill. Let them quote you an OEM $500 Chrome grill, and make sure the check is made out to you.

You don't have to use them to repair your vehicle.

On my SS Camaro when I bought it, previous owner had custom front vents in bumper and one night a opossum ran out and it broke the mounting tabs to bumper. I got estimate from body shop, asked to get cashed out instead of having shop fix it, they sent me $2,100, then I went online and bought a oem Zl1 bumper pre painted to match, sent to me, had body shop install it, came out to right at $2,100. Should be able to just get the $.
