New here, with my '17 Big Horn and 5.7L Hemi.
Ive always subscribed to taking the factory fill out after 500-1000 miles and Im a fan of synthetic oil even with the extra cost (I dont drive much, so its probably not necessary, but with 2 oil changes per year I dont mind the extra cost)
That being said, Ive read a ton of pages in this thread. RedLine seems to be "the choice", but Im still debating 5W-20 vs 5W-30. Being a '17, I assume I have MDS *and* VVT? Will a heavier weight oil mess with either (or both) of those systems?
I do see the benefits of running 30 instead of 20, but I dont want to mess up anything else (especially under warranty). If 30 wont muck with the systems, Ill order up some RedLine 5w-30 pretty soon (300 miles on my truck already)
Thanks in advance.
