I just bought a universal mount for my 7" LG Gpad to stick to the dash in the center indent and rest the tablet directly behind the stereo bezel cutout.

I plan to use it for navigation and music.

Does anyone have any better recommendations or tips/tricks?

I used a Proclip Ram mount with and extension to get it up a little so it doesn't obscure the radio screen then added a ball style tablet mount from amazon. I like it but to be honest there is some flex in it with the weight of a tablet on there. If it's a bumpy road you are going to get some vibration and movement (i'm in a 2500 HD truck so probably a rougher ride then you 1500).
Kind of a combination of the extension flexing and the dash it self. I might see if I can reinforce under it somehow? I could mount it directly to the Proclip mount but it would hang too low.

The vibration is definitely something I am concerned about, thus resting it directly on the dash...

I like your setup though. I may have to try it, if this universal I get doesn't work out...

The indent where the large flat portion of the dash (behind the defog vent) is where I plan to put the extra sticky suction cup. Then the tablet will set inside the holder, resting against the dash, just atop the small cutout over the radio.

Going to have a hard time getting a suction cup to stick to the dash. I tried but it just won't.
Prior to the current mount I used this one in the link below. It suctioned to the window and the little pad I had resting on the flat area and the tablet down against the dash. That worked pretty well but was finicky to get it set just right and It would come lose from the window on occasion and everything would fall.

And I just looked on proclips web site. The don't show the mount I have any more. must have discontinued it?

This one shows a super gel sticky layer on the suction cup....we shall see.

The pictures also show it attached to a textured surface......

Ya I guess the thought is you listen to the radio not watch it lol
If mine doesn't work, I might give this a try....why not? It's cheap....

Won't work for my 7" tablet, but perhaps for my 10" tablets....with a little ingenuity I suppose....

It would be cool if they could leverage that mounting design but extend it up above the radio? With all those point of contact around the radio bezel it may be pretty stable?

Get yourself a Scoche magic mount, they make many different types including the Magic Mount XL for your tablets. Its a 2 minute install, clean as can be, super strong bond to the dash and its all magnetic as far as connecting to your tablet. I have 2 in my truck, there is 0 vibration. Scoche makes the best mounts on the market IMO. Very well built, affordable, and they work exactly as advertised. They are also a clean seamless install. Worth every penny.

Have you seen the track system that Ram Mounts offers? I plan on installing this.

This works for any suction cup mounts. I used an old CD case and cut a circle about 1/8" larger than the cup fully squashed. Used some 3m molding tape. Anything with a smooth surface that doesn't bend will work.

Here it is, mounted. Working very well so far.

Plugged in to the USB plug under the 115v outlet.

I use it for Car Home Ultra. It provides a complete dashboard of information, navigation, music/audio books, altimeter, etc.79b7934fa058f64dbd55decd684dea76.jpg0aaeaf19ef231616800227084c9ceaca.jpg421378edb2c000471abc02e93b7f1b2b.jpg158c78edf344557423f20b7d52b6d3d7.jpg601c4d30fac4225b1ee0b1f86f352f84.jpg9f37562630f0e340d5d78e6aa558566f.jpg

I also have the CravenSpeed phone mount. It is pretty decent, keeps the phone in very easy sightline for use as navigation, etc.

That mount looks like it works pretty good Tater. Will be interesting to see how it holds over time? I know for me here in the hot humid south those suctions cup type mounts worked for a bit but once it got real hot they start coming loose (even the real good ones). May not be an issue where you are at though? Keep us updated down the road if is still holding in there.
