D85CAC5C-67A4-456A-A899-7369BFA555B1.jpeg Hey everyone. My tailgate assist decided to finally give way. Any suggestions on how to remove this with out it falling into the tailgate. I figured I could cut it and use a magnet to try and get it out. Anyone have this happen to them.

Thanks in advance

I think, if it does fall in, you can remove the panel on the tailgate and get it out. I have not taken it off myself, but it doesn’t look to bad.

I've seen this method used and it worked. This is showing it on a Ford but it's the same on our Rams

https://www.fordraptorforum.com/threads/ez-down-nutsert-problem-solved.15369/

eTrailer says this:
If the existing nutsert from DeeZee Tailgate Assist # DZ43301 is stripped out or is otherwise unable to come out then you may be able to gently pry it out some and then get some vise grips around it and pull it out. Otherwise it will likely have to be drilled out. Some tailgates do have panels on the inside that can come off to access the inner workings of the tailgate so in some cases you may be able to force it out through the inside.

Few others have had this happen as well, they have an updated design now. That screw just holds on the bracket and the shock is attached to the bracket stud.

When I bought my truck new they didn't put the metal plate against the tailgate originally, I brought it in as the "Ball joint" shifted and my tailgate assist then fell apart and wouldn't stay. I wish they put the supporting plate on in the first place but live and learn.
