Has anyone had problems with your tailgate falling down? I have a 2022 Ram 2500. The tailgate has fallen many times. I’ve been double checking it every time I shut it but it still falls. It fell last week while pulling my camper. The tailgate was damaged by the trailer jack. There is a recall for this and my dealer said they won’t cover the damage that resulted. I’m no rocket scientist but I would think they should fix the damage. What do you all think? Thanks.

Sorry, I didn't read about your tailgate damage. How bad is it? Try another dealer. My tailgate opened once before the recall, but it was my fault for not closing g it properly.

Mine got “fixed” 2 times by the dealership. One month after the 2 nd time it got to where I couldn’t open it. I finally adjusted it myself.

If there was a recall perhaps you should have gotten it fixed, instead of putting it off and damaging it.
Probably didn't occur to you that he may not have known about the recall before this happened?
There's lots of people that don't know about a recall until visiting a dealership or this forum.

Did you have it back to the dealer for an adjustment/repair after the first couple of times of it falling?

Unless you are out of warranty, I don't see why you didn't take it in for repair - and if you did then you have an argument that the dealer should have performed the recall or repaired it correctly.
If you didn't take it in for repair (if still under warranty), then that's on you for ignoring the issue.

I doubt they would cover it but you can always ask - they might go 50-50. Might is the key word.

Not if they can read their mail. (USPS) All owners are always notified by mail. No excuse not to know about a recall.

He also said it has fallen several times. So he knew it was likely to fall when he hooked up his trailer.

I didn’t know there was a recall until after the tailgate was damaged. E we actually got an email the very same day. I have a tonneau cover and thought maybe it was interfering with it closing.

You also got a written notice most likely weeks earlier. Which you didn't read or ignored.
You did know the tailgate was falling and you should have looked to see what it would hit. If you thought the tonneau cover was interfering, why not check and see? Just unlatch the cover and close the tailgate.

Your fault, you're making up excuses.

I don't know where you get your info from, but i've never had a written recall notice for my truck. I usually don't find out about a recall until i go to the dealer, and the parts department tells me i have an out standing recall on my cars or trucks

I do not blame the dealer for not wanting to warranty the damage. You say the tailgate fell many times. Recall or not, this needed attention. You didn't take it in for repair, nor did you do anything to fix it yourself, or even use a ratchet strap to hold it in place till you could get it fixed. If it releases often enough, it will eventually hit something and be damaged. Even pulling the trailer you did nothing to secure the tailgate so it released again and finally hit something.

You need to accept responsibility for your own lack of action; whining on forums seems to have replaced taking effective action. Same kind of attitude that causes some people to film someone drowning so they can post it for clicks and likes, rather than step in and help.

You have to read your mail. Those second-class letters that look like someone asking for money. I've received notice for EVERY recall on any vehicle I've owned in the last 30 years. If I postpone the repair I get a second and third. You have also. Do you know what Grammarly is?

With every recall there has to be some form of notice sent to the consumer. Notification is usually by a letter or post card type of notification sent via the mail. Regardless of recall or not you're admitting it's been a problem several times. It's unfortunate there's now damage but it was just a matter of time if you did nothing to correct the problem. If I were you I try a different dealer but do not let on it was an ongoing problem and hope for the best. Good luck

I completely agreed with you post, till you told him to try another dealer and lie to get coverage. Just one more aspect of failing to take personal repsonsibility for our own actions. He would be taking goods and labour he isn't entitled to and that is theft, plain and simple.

Dealers are generally lacking about the whole "recall" thing. Get ahold of Ram Cares and try obtaining satisfaction through them. Good luck!

If this isn't a recall, but a campaign, then it's almost never going to have a notification letter sent out. Also, if it isn't directly connected to safety/ someone could get hurt or die, they are pretty lame about it as well.

I always have received a letter about recalls. Unfortunately, most times parts haven't been available. But there are no parts needed for the tailgate adjustment.

I've never had a mail notice either email or good old letter in the mailbox for a recall on any of my Chryco products. I'm also the one who picks up the mail,so i'd know if there was a letter in the mailbox even if it was 2nd class mail. You're assuming they send something out,but in reality it appears only to certain individuals.
