Tailgate lock not locking

Any have ideas of repair or should i het whole new assembly with new key for my tailgate

What exactly is happening?

I assume it is not power, so you turn the key and it doesn't lock, or the key won't turn?

No its not just keyed, it flips to lock position but handle still opens the gate

so your key cylinder is not engaging the lock

Hold the key hole open with a screwdriver and spray WD-40 in it. Try turning it a little bit at a time. They tend to seize up from lack of use.

So does it lock with power when you hit the lock button since it is not just keyed?

If it is just the actual key that does not lock it then I would pop the cover off the inside of the tailgate and see what is broken.

All the manufacturers like to use those plastic clips to hold all the actuator rods on and they break with age.

Correct, i will be digging into it this weekend just looking for some info before I start

Take the access panel off the inner tailgate and spray everything with a white lithium grease or similar that will last longer than a penetrating oil

maybe their is a rod with a clip on it that pivots and the clip slid off of the rod before spraying all this crap all over the inside look at the lock and the rods watch and see if they move when turning the key also spray the cylinder with WD40 it might be sticking and work it back and fourth to work it in hope it works for you good luck oh forgot take the tailgate panel off and all the locking parts will be exposed to work on

So i took apart gate panel and seems to be something missing where the key flips the locking latch like plastic im sure big void

Update, all good now, just oiled up the key hole key was not turning all the way to engage lock.

yeah that really needed cleaning and some white grease on the moving parts glad it worked out for you
