Tailgate lock

When I bought my truck the tailgate lock was broken (didn't lock)
and the dealership said they would fix it if I scheduled a servicing time. Well it has been 2 years and moved 9 hours away. So how hard is it to fix? and what would I need to do so.

I'm getting a bed cover which is why I'm finally getting around to fixing it.

all I have been able to find is electric tailgate locks, I don't think I want to spend 100+ on something like that

It should be covered under your warranty y not let a local stealership fix it?

All it probably needs is lube. You take off the 8 bolts with Torx heads that are on the inside of the tailgate when down. These will allow you to open the panel that protects and covers the tailgate. Then just lube the latch and test before bolting it back together. I would bet it is just like mine has been where water and junk gets in and it struggles to work properly.
