How likely is it that the latch will fail? I had an appointment with the local dealer to get mine done. I showed up at my appointment and they informed me they didn't have the parts. He said that they would be coming in later that same afternoon and they would call me and get me in first as soon as the parts arrived. That was a week ago. Now I'm pissed and not sure I want someone working on my truck that would make an appointment for something and fail to order parts. It's well over an hour away to a different dealership. So I'm wondering if I even really need to do this. Haven't had an issue yet

I think you could reasonably wait until the next visit, but set the expectation that the part better be there. My understanding from the dealer that there have been very few instances where this was a problem for a driver.

Had mine done today :)

It seems lots of people have had this problem and some have reported that the tailgate drops while they are driving down the road allowing anything in the bed to fly out. I assume that not all are like that but with my luck I'd have the one that had the problem. I don't blame you for being pissed, but I think it might be worth another shot to try to get it fixed. Generally most Ram service depts suck! Some are worst than others. I try to be reasonable with them until the point that it makes no difference then I start looking for the GM to see what the problem with is service dept is. Generally this will get results---

Mine dropped about a dozen times. This happened right before I was moving...I could not wait for the dealership to do the recall. I just ordered the new actuator assembly, and installed it myself. My old part had the broken tab on it. new one took care of it, all good to go. I think it cost me about $60 and 8 minutes if my time. But at least I could use my truck while I was moving without having to worry about loosing my furniture (LOL)!!!!

I went ahead and made an appointment at the other dealership. Be a nice drive. Then I can enjoy a cup of coffee while I wait for them to fix my truck :)

I'll post how it goes at the other place

I was a little worried about this happening but it sounded like this was something that happened over time. Since I don’t Have many miles on my truck I wasn’t too worried. So I wasn’t concerned with getting it fixed right away. Until I went on a 1,000 mile round trip a few weeks ago. I had it done a few days before we left on our trip. Those of you that have had this issue, how many miles did you have when your tailgate started to drop?

Just call before you go there & verify they have the part.

And for those that have to wait and are worried about it breaking just go into the truck menus and set it to only open the drivers door when you turn off the truck if you dont have other passengers all the time so that way it won't unlock the tailgate unnecessarily until its fixed.

Maybe Ram Cares should take note of the number of members that are hesitant to take their truck back to the dealer for any reason including for recalls. If they are suppose to solve problems maybe this is one they should be working on. Just my opinion!!!!!

When I took it to the out of town dealership they said it was going to take 45 minutes to do it. I walked down the street and got some lunch. Didn't even get to eat it when I got the call stating they had finished my truck. I ate real quickly, and went to get it. When I got there they told me they saw another recall I didn't even know about, and they had fixed that too. Central Valley Dodge for the win!!

Mine never failed but I made an appointment and took my truck in today for 3 recalls. I was there 2 hours but I dont think they started on it right away and they were very busy. I hate dealerships or anyone working on my vehicles but whatcha gonna do, had to get it done.

Oh... they have this data. That's really the whole point of the "Social Care Specialist"... to project a smiling face and a calming voice into potential corporate-image-damaging social media content. These guys a paid to monitor the internet and capture social data/metrics. Corporations pay these people to put the companies best foot forward in the social media world as soon as possible before the herd panics.

EDIT: not to say there is anything wrong with that or that they can't be a useful tool in conflict resolution - I'd bet its part of their written job description, but resolution is not the main reason they exist.
