I have owned a variety of new trucks over the years...the last 5 have been Dodges or Rams...I'm certain some have had issues that made them regret buying one brand over another, but I have to say my luck with 3 hemi Durangos and 2 1500 Rams, one hemi and the current a 2017 EcoDiesel model. Prior to that was a Long Horn edition with Hemi and all bells and whistles including 4WD. I have loved them all, and other than a few recalls, have not had any real problematic issues. If anything happened to my 2017, I would go straight back to my dealer and buy a 2019 Ram. The worst truck I had was a 2004 Chevy with Duramax diesel and 2 wheel drive 3/4 ton...I sold it with 65 K on the odo, and bought a Limited hemi Durango. Awesome SUV/truck, as I used it to haul my race car all over the country. When it had 92 K on it, I bought another new one, and used it the same way. No issues ever. My third Durango was the current version, 2011 Citadel...another awesome vehicle, but needed a truck a couple years later. Love my Rams, but Ford would be my second choice...

Seems to be water leaking issues with the body seals in the sunroof and...infotainment system not working or requiring updates.

Well thats why sunroofs don't even belong in trucks in the first place. Just because a manufacturer offers it doesn't mean a buyer should order that thing. Or buy it off the lot if comes with.

As far as infotainment... well, it's a software suite, and theres probably a mix of proprietary code and sub-contracted code (e.g. the "operating system". So yeah, anything that is a system of systems in software is gonna get whacked. Be it banking programs, car infotainment, F-35 strike fighter, a smart phone, For, Chetty, or Ram... They all gonna puke errors at some point. Go analogue. If cannot go analogue, then get one and cross fingers.

I plan on having it for the next 8-10 years.

Yeah, me too. I have a 2005 (would that be a "fourth gen"?) just went over a quarter million miles last month. It wants to be replaced, but doesn't NEED to be replaced. Yet. I typically keep my vehicles til they run into the ground, but I too am wondering if we could do that with today's trucks. Well, let me re-state that. Of course we could run today's new trucks into the ground the same way we did yesterday's trucks. The question is, if "into the ground" happens today at 50k/4-6 years vs 300k/15-20 years anymore...

I'm on the fence for a 2019 limited Ram 1500, or Ford 150. I love the Ram, but the questionable reliability is really giving me cold feet. Am I being too cautious or have the majority of the growing pains been sorted? This is a 50k mistake I would rather avoid.

both good vehicles! all vehicles have problems, just need to do the maintenance stuff, I have owned all 3 trucks, no big problems.
BUT

Love MY Rebel!!!!!

The new Ram 1500 looks just like the F150, I'll keep my 2015 Ram 2500. If I need to upgrade going forward it won't be another Ram.

Where in the hell do you see resemblance between a new Phord Eff-WunFitty.... 1a637828d727acead35de1325fa1770c.jpg
....and that new Ram halfton??

If anything, it resembles the new Ranger...

....but it certainly more closer resembles the new Tundra than it does that damn halfton Phord.

WHAAATTTT???!!!!!!
(Really? Since when???)

I’m thinkin’ here recently like, within the last year. It’s kinda sad really, because it’s almost like they anticipated there’d be issues with that new design.

November 30, 2018 FCA stopped selling lifetime Maxcare warranties. Best Maxcare you can get now is a 7 year unlimited mile warranty. No more lifetime on the years though.

Well, that’s not too terribly bad. 7 years these days isn’t too bad of a period to keep a truck. Most people don’t even keep them that long anyways.

Hell, lifetime warranty or not for me, I guess I’ll just have to wait see where I’m at after 7 years and what condition the truck’s in that would decide whether I keep it another 3 years. As long as I get a good 7,8 trouble-free years out of it, I’m happy.

Personally I think the only similarities are that they are all pickup trucks. They are all different but the Ram looks the best. I might be a bit bias.

I do to for the most part and yeah, I’m more biased to the Ram, myself. Even though I still don’t particularly care for that new 5th Gen body style on the 1500s, I still think it’s the best looking than anything else in its class.

I’m just glad you stayed with us even after all the hell you went through with the air suspension you had on your last truck.

And you think Fords don't have problems or issues? :happy175:
GOTTA LOVE FORDS! Helped pay my mortgage and put my daughter through college. Everybody should own at least one!

I went to the Ford dealership today, test drove the best platinum 2019, and honestly, the 150 for all of its pluses, just seems to have too much cheap plastic with their interior. I just decided that the ford just isn't worth the extra cash, for what I feel is less of a truck for what I need. i have decided to just go with my gut which is the Ram. Thanks everyone for the opinions and advice. I'm probably going to get the extended warranty and cover with the money I save.

I bought my Maxcare extended warranty this weekend at 45K miles. You can save some money if you buy yours within 12 months or 12k miles, whichever comes first.

The sunroof leaks are really no problem at all. It is because the drain tubes are stopped up. All you have to do to fix the problem is squeeze the end of the drain tube or even better, cut the very tip end off.

You could buy a 4th gen 2018, loaded, you might still find a new one out there or buy a used one, and with the money saved, take a cruise or buy a small boat! I bought mine in 2012 when it was a year old with 20,000 miles. 40,000 later I've replaced tires, done oil changes, that is it.
