How much does the average shop charge to install these items. I relies i can do the VB on my own, however if i do the TC I might as well have the shop put the VB in at the same time and save on the fluid.

So how much should this job cost?

Before I did it at a friend's shop with a lift I checked around, most places wanted $500-$600 for the tc, probably add another $500 or so for the vb. figure it's a 4hr job.,

I paid $600 I think and had filters/seals replaced at the same time. They had it on the bench to do this and it would have taken very little for them to have installed a VB at the same time. Now the labor would go up if they had to actually install the kit in the VB and then re-install the original VB. I would give it some thought to possibly purchasing a modified VB to simply install. Good luck.

Is your truck a 2wd or 4wd? 4wd is more expensive. I called a few places before I did mine the first time and they wanted about 350 for 2wd and 500 for 4wd. For that price I did it myself. Now having swapped three times I am glad I decided to do it myself.

The 03-05 1500 4x4 is alill more of a PITA because of the long carrier mount that holds the front diff, engine and trans all together. You being an 07 I dont believe they use that anymore, you can just slide and tilt the trans and do the verter swap without dropping the trans all the way also. If your installing a new VB the thats a breeze, just watch out for the ATF bath you might get dropping the pan.

Best way I found to deal with that mount is to cut it then weld it when I reinstall the trans.

I did some calling last week on pricing for a tc swap.

I learned that most places out here are really ******* stupid. "Why are we doing this?" Shut up dillhole and quote it. LOL

Lowest price, $440. Still a bit more calling to do.....

And, I'm 4x4. Breakdown of hours:
- 4.1 to r&r tranny
- 1.2 extra for 4x4
- .4 extra for dual exhaust on my 10.........WTF. the exhaust is the same to the muffler.......idiots.

Do it yourself. Once you learn how to do it you will be glad with all the money you save. Plus, it adds up fast if you do a few swaps like I have.

I have 0 time or patience for that....

The way I figure it.........in the time its done, I could be in the shop working on headlights.......and..........its not a money saver at that point. The job would take me a ****load more than book time, and I just don't have the tools to do it either.

I guess I am just the type of guy who likes to do things myself rather than pay someone to do it.

I am too....within reason. I know my limits of what I can do on my truck as well, but - in the end, it all comes down to time too.

Gotta love all-data and there quote times. JJ your doing right by getting a shop to do it if you don't feel comfortable doing it. If the verter is not all the way seated and you bolt it back up you can break the trans and be s.o l. Always tend to check, check and recheck that it was all the way in.

That very issue was bought up when using different transmission combo's. Always measure free play on the converter to insure it isn't jamb up against the pump and is inserted correctly. Some combo's require a shim between the trans and engine or special flex plates to work.
